What's On July 2014

Isn't it great the days are getting longer and the true cold part begins? On the solstice I had a moment of madness, and with my brother we took a freezing midwinter dip in Lake Dunstan. We then celebrated the longest night in front of a roaring bonfire, in true Central style. I often think of that documentary 'The March of the Penguins' at this time of year and right now those large birds have formed their enormous huddle in the pitch dark of Antarctica, brrrr!
At least we can venture out to enjoy some company and various entertainment with July shaping up to be jam packed with interesting things to entice you away from the fire. It's often the way but there is quite a lot on this weekend. In Alexandra the hugely successful Dunstan High School choir, fresh back from cleaning up at a major choral competition in Melbourne, will perform alongside the Burnside High School choir tonight at the Alexandra Memorial Hall. If coral singing is your thing, don't miss this.
During the upcoming July school holidays there are plenty of workshops across the region to give our young people an opportunity to be active and creative. Art, craft and hip hop dance lessons are on offer for very reasonable prices. Check below for the details on these classes and please try to support the organisers in their attempt to make experiences available for our country kids that they don't often get.
Stay safe, enjoy life and keep warm! Maxine
