CHS: Inspiring girls to discover and pursue their personal exellence.

It has been a busy time at Crofton House School which is abuzz with the return of students for the 2022-2023 school year. It has been a pleasure to welcome alumnae, students and parents back onto campus this fall. We hope to see you at one of the many events we have planned for this school year. Of note, the school will enter it’s 125th year in 2023 and we are in the planning stages for the celebration.

Welcome to our newest alumnae, the Graduating Class of 2022! You are one of the most diverse graduating classes on record, spanning the globe as you embark on the next stage of your journey. To all of you, we wish you a wonderful year ahead and hope that you will stay in touch.

A special hello to all the alumnae who are returning to Crofton House School wearing a new parent hat! Crofton House School has over 60 alumnae moms in the school community and has one of the largest legacy family communities in the Lower Mainland. We hope that your daughter’s year is off to a wonderful start and that you were able to connect with fellow alumnae parents at the Welcome Back BBQ or the New Parents’ Dinner.

We look forward to an exciting year ahead!

Ena Harrop, Head of Crofton House School welcomed the CHS Community

Head of School, Ena Harrop, welcomed the CHS Community back during the Whole School Opening Assembly with a message of gratitude and hope. Ena spoke of her gratitude for this assembly being the first school assembly that the entire community could attend together, and also for the progress that has been made and continues to be made in terms of equality of opportunities for women. Ena spoke of her gratitude to Jessie Gordon for being such a visionary and to the CHS Community for its support of the Afghan students.

Ena spoke about the impact of the pandemic and offered a moment to pause and reflect on all that we experienced and all that we were able to achieve. Proving that when we work together we can make the seemingly impossible possible. View a recording of Ena’s address.

Message from Kelly (McCarthy) Eng ’90, CHS Alumnae Association President

Fall days are here and classes are starting to settle down after all the back-to-school introductions and activities. September welcomed our Alum Mums for a breakfast meet-and-greet at the Heritage Dining Room of the Old Residence, as well as a joint effort with the CHS Parents’ Auxiliary hosting Alka Joshi, New York Times bestselling author of The Henna Artist, at our inaugural CHS book club event. We started October with a small (but mighty!) team for Run for the Cure and we are looking forward to resuming our alum walks in Pacific Spirit Park.

The Alumnae Association met in September to plan for the school year and look forward to the 125th anniversary of Crofton House School. This is an important milestone and there is so much to celebrate. We will be exploring other opportunities for alumnae to connect at home and abroad, through social and philanthropic activities, as well as taking the opportunity this year to review initiatives such as the Alumnae Achievement Awards.

Alumnae Knitting Club

Calling all alumnae who love to knit or would like to explore the world of yards, irons and crochets. The Alumnae Association and the Advancement Department are launching a new joint initiative that will run through the 2022-2023 school year.

We are looking for handmade beanies, scarves, socks, gloves, and anything you would like to create. All items will be donated to different charitable organizations. If you live in Vancouver and would like to donate some of your handmade creations feel free to drop them off at the Old Residence Building and include your name.

If you live outside the Lower Mainland please mail your items to Crofton House School with attention to the Advancement Department. Any questions please email alumnae@croftonhouse.ca.

Have a favourite book that you want to share? Looking for ways to get together post pandemic? Please join us at CHS where alumna, Trish Dundas '83, will host the inaugural session of the Alumnae Book Club in Nocente Fireside Lounge on November 1. Crofton House will provide appetizers and refreshments. As this is the first meeting, it will be a meet and greet for alumnae to connect with one another, and decide on the first book. We will enjoy old favourites along with new, fun and creative ideas–from games and shopping to food and entertainment. Save the date for this event and watch out for more details to be shared soon.
