‘Eat, write, retreat’: Making the most of writing retreats

Writing retreats are structured writing events where a group of individuals take themselves out of their usual environment and away from their usual distractions to complete a writing task. In this blog, our Nursing & Health Sciences HDR students reflect on their recent writing retreat experience.

PhD student Damian Adams presents to the United Nations

At the end of 2019, The United Nations invited Flinders PhD student Damian Adams to speak at a workshop titled “Children in the age of biotechnology”. Not only was the invitation itself a rare honour for a PhD student, Damian and the team received a standing ovation. We asked Damian to share his recent experience with us.

Get to know your OGR - Megan Prideaux

Megan Prideaux is part of our HDR Development team. Megan is the Partner Engagement and Pathways Officer, looking after industry engagement, Cotutelle degrees and skills development for students. This month we shine the spotlight on Megan.

Megan, can you tell us what you do in the world of Higher Degrees by Research?
My role is Partner Engagement and Pathways Officer which involves supporting students to have positive, impactful experiences with international university and industry partners.  This includes developing Cotutelle (joint) doctorate arrangements and coordinating programs like APR Intern, Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS) and Braidwood Community Radio all of which offer students the opportunity to enhance their skills, as well as extend their research impact.

What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is hearing from students that a Cotutelle arrangement or industry partnership has been a positive experience.  It is amazing to hear about the insights, impact and skills that students have gained and also wonderful to find out that the experience has been rewarding.

Do you have a favourite holiday destination?
Anywhere that involves a beach, sunshine and opportunities to do yoga, SUP and hiking are on my list!  I also like a road trip and a couple of years ago drove from the Gold Coast in Queensland to Ballina in New South Wales, which was a combination of the above as well as beautiful scenery.

What is your favourite cuisine?
At the moment, my favourite food is an acai bowl with granola, fruit and coconut yoghurt.  I am not sure how I will manage this during winter though, as they tend to make me feel quite chilly.
