Second Look - LegacyUntil 28 February
Second Look Legacy celebrates the material intelligence and creativity of contemporary textile practice, inviting audiences to reflect on how handmade textiles are collected, valued, and loved. This inspiring exhibition showcases innovative ways artists engage with materials—giving new life to fabrics through repair, reuse, and reinvention. Read ABC's article on the exhibition.
landlines/tracelinesUntil 28 February
landlines/tracelines presents work by Melinda Young.
"These works hold the lines and traces of shore and land, at once part of the stories of the place of before and the place of now, underpinned by the tensions and complexities of contemporary Australia. Stories shared here through the language of making."
Imperial StockingsUntil 28 February
Imperial Stockings, presenting the work of Annemaree Dalziel, makes a patchy stocktake of a hundred and fifty years of turmoil and suffering in Gaelic speaking Highland and Island Scotland, by knitting an entangled history of social change into seven pairs of long woollen socks.
Stitched Forms with Ro CookWorkshop Saturday 17 January, 11am - 2pm
As part of the Second Look - Legacy workshop series, create a 3-dimensional form, for example a vessel/basket or sculpture using materials found under the bench, stashed in a cupboard or in the back yard or shed. If they are flexible you can manipulate and stitch a variety of these materials together. Think rope, fabric strips, ribbons, cane, vines, twines, old scarves or neck ties, raffia. Scale, shape, colour, construction techniques and stability will be explored in in your project.
Stitched Wearables with Melinda YoungWorkshop Saturday 31 January, 12pm - 3pm
As part of the Second Look - Legacy workshop series, this workshop focuses on surface transformation, colour and textural play. Using simple hand stitching, appliqué & cordage techniques, we will work with cloth, thread, beads, buttons & sequins to transform remnant textiles into a brooch, necklace or earrings. Participants are also welcome to bring a piece of clothing or a tote bag to embellish.
