Fulbright 2026-2027 Competition

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is offering more than 380 awards in more than 130 countries this year. Please share these opportunities with your colleagues who would make great Fulbrighters. The deadline to apply to U.S. Scholar awards is September 15, 2025 (5:00pm Eastern, UTC -5:00)

National Science Foundation

  • NSF 25-543: Computer and Information Science and Engineering : Future Computing Research (Future CoRe), supports research and education projects that develop new knowledge in all aspects of computing, communications, and information science and engineering. Deadline: September 11, 2025
  • NSF 25-540: Translation to Practice (NSF TTP) – due September 16, 2025, or January 20, 2026, or May 19, 2026
  • NSF 21-588 – EDU Core Research – Supports research on STEM education in one or more of three research areas: STEM learning and learning environments, broadening participation in STEM, and STEM workforce development. Due October 2, 2025.
  • NSF 24-503 – Research Experiences for Teachers in Engineering and Computer Science – Supports summer research experiences for K-14 educators that foster long-term collaborations between universities, community colleges, school districts and industry partners. Due October 8, 2025.

  • Samsung GRO 2025: The GRO program is an annual call for proposals that invites the world’s leading universities to propose innovative research ideas that will be evaluated for their novelty and alignment with Samsung’s various research fields. Internal Deadline August 21, 2025
  • Sony Research Award Program 2025: The Sony Focused Research Award provides an opportunity for university faculty, research institutes, and Sony to conduct this type of collaborative, focused research. The award provides up to $150K USD in funds, and may be renewed for subsequent year(s). Internal Deadline September 8, 2025
  • Willima T. Grant Foundation Institutional Challenge Grant – Supports university-based research institutes, schools, and centers in building sustained research-practice partnerships with public agencies or nonprofit organizations to reduce inequality in youth outcomes. Due September 15, 2025, 3 PM EST.
 

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Policy Updates

  • NIH announced a new policy limiting Principal Investigator/Program Director or Multiple Principal Investigator to six new, renewal, resubmission, or revision applications for all council rounds in a calendar year, effective Sept. 25, 2025. Furthermore, NIH will not consider applications that are either substantially developed by AI, or contain sections substantially developed by AI, to be original ideas of the applicants.  NIH will use technology to detect such content, with potential penalties for violations. 
  • How Does the NIH Initiative to Prioritize Human-Based Research Affect Research Proposing the Use of Laboratory Animals? | Grants & Funding clarifies last week’s announcement about NIH eliminating animal-model-only NOFOs. See  NIH to prioritize human-based research technologies | National Institutes of Health (NIH)

  • Submitting Your First Study to Chapman's IRB - September 19, 2025 on Zoom

Does submitting your study to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) make you break out in a cold sweat? Dread no more! Join the IRB’s upcoming online workshop “Submitting your first study to Chapman’s IRB” on September 19, 2025 from 1:00-2:00 pm. The workshop is geared towards researchers new to Chapman. IRB staff will be walking you through use of Cayuse-Human Ethics.

Completion of either CITI course: “Biomedical Research”, or “Social and Behavioral Research” before the workshop is highly recommended to give you some baseline knowledge on what the IRB is.

Writing Time Management Tips

Writing is core to academic success, but when your schedule gets filled with teaching, service, mentoring, administrative tasks, family, etc., writing is often the first thing that gets pushed aside. It is important to figure out how to sustain your writing when everything else feels more urgent. Check out NCFDD’s latest blog, that includes five practical strategies for protecting writing time in a demanding academic life.

Application Now Open for 2025-2026 Library Open Access Award

The Supporting Open Access Research and Scholarship (SOARS) program is designed to provide financial support to Chapman University assistant and associate faculty publishing the results of their research, scholarship, or creative activity in an Open Access (OA) journal. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis through late April 2026. Interested participants can view the application here.

Teaching with the Library – A Virtual Library Workshop for Instructors

The Leatherby Libraries will be hosting a virtual workshop for faculty on Tuesday, August 12, at 12:15 p.m. that will provide a comprehensive overview of library resources and services, and they can be used to support your courses. This session will highlight how to locate and provide links to eBooks, scholarly articles, streaming media, and other resources in your syllabus and Canvas.

Pivot Funding Search – Office Hours

Our Data Services Librarian will be hosting office hours on the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. to help you craft your Pivot keywords for your profile and searches. Participants can drop in virtually or in person, or they can book a one-on-one consultation for help outside of office hours.
