Memorial Moment at EPC 2026

Inspired by suggestions from members, the Council has decided to introduce a Memorial Moment in the Opening Ceremony of the upcoming European Population Conference 2026 in Bologna. At this occasion we will take time to remember colleagues who are dearly missed by our community.

Every member who wishes to share the passing of a colleague in the population field who passed away in recent years (say since the previous European Population Conference 2024) is invited to write to us at eaps@nidi.nl mentioning the name, dates of birth and passing, affiliation and/or country of residence of the deceased. While the Memorial Moment at the Opening Ceremony will have to be short, any other information about the deceased may be shared at the EAPS website.

EPC 2026 Preliminary Program

The full scientific program of the European Population Conference 2026 is online at: EPC2026.

Do check all practical information about EPC 2026 here.

EPC 2026 Pre-Conference Program

Visiting the EPC Pre-Conference program is an excellent opportunity to start your conference. We are lucky to have a great set of activities on Wednesday June 3rd in the Belmeloro venue, starting from 9.00. Almost all events are open to participants, and include a variety of workshops and meeting. Several of these events are organized by EAPS Working Groups, so this is also a great  opportunity to get to know their activities. Check the program website!

EAPS Booth at EPC 2026

EAPS has a booth at the EPC 2026 Exhibition and is happy to share this with the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP). National Population Associations/Societies who wish to share information at the EAPS booth are welcome to do so. They should bring their materials themselves to Bologna and remove these after the conference! Please let us know at EAPS@nidi.nl if you want to make use of this offer.

Presenting at EPC 2026

EPC 2026 is just around the corner and we can imagine that authors are busy preparing their presentations. For a smooth conference experience, authors should be aware that they should bring their presentation to the session on a memory stick, usb or flash drive and connect this to the onsite computer. It is NOT possible to make your presentation using your own laptop or to connect your laptop to the onsite computer!

Authors are advised to also send their presentation to the Chair of their session.

The time for presentations varies per session. In sessions with 5 presentations, each presenter has 12 minutes. If your session has 4 presentations, this may be 15 minutes. Presentations in Flash sessions are 5 minutes.

Always check with the Session Chair about the timing and order of presentations. Do keep within the allotted time!  Chairs are asked to strictly monitor this.

Note that in the Flash Sessions at EPC 2026 there are NO posters. Flash presenters are advised to use not more than 5 slides.

In all sessions, the discussion from the floor will be moderated by the Chair; there are no Discussants at EPC 2026.

For this and other information, check the Frequently Asked Questions at the EPC 2026 website!

EJP aims to improve understanding of population phenomena by giving priority to work that contributes to the development of theory and method, and that spans the boundaries between demography and such disciplines as sociology, anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, epidemiology and other sciences contributing to public health. Contributors come from around the world, and the coverage includes both European and non-European countries.

The journal addresses a broad public of researchers, policy makers and others concerned with population processes and their consequences.

Call for Papers – Workshop “Aftermath of a Pandemic: Changes in Mortality and Health” | 28-29 January 2027 | Oslo, Norway

Pandemics are transformative events that leave lasting marks on population health, mortality, and social structures. While immediate impacts such as short-term infection-related impact on health and mortality are well documented, far less is known about the aftermath of a pandemic in the mid- to long-term both in direct and indirect health and mortality impact.

This workshop will focus on these poorly understood effects. We invite submissions that engage with questions related to the aftermath of a pandemic, such as:

  • How do mortality patterns change, and which causes of death increase or decrease?
  • Are mortality changes influenced by socio-demographic or socio-economic factors?
  • What demographic effects arise following a pandemic?
  • How do pandemics interact with the epidemiology of other infectious diseases?
  • How are healthcare systems impacted or restructured?
  • Is there an increase in hospitalizations for specific diseases?
  • What are the short- and long-term health and mortality effects for individuals born during a pandemic?

Deadline for submissions: 11 September 2026

Call for Papers – 'Labour Market Transformations and the Future of Families' LabFam Conference 2026, 25–26 September 2026 | Warsaw, Poland

The world of work is changing rapidly, reshaping the conditions under which people form families and have children.
Rapid technological change across the globally interconnected economies have substantially transformed the labour markets, resulting in higher skill requirements, new more flexible but also insecure forms of employment and larger social inequalities. These new conditions of labour force participation have profoundly reshaped the career opportunities of women and men, in particular in the context of care obligations. At the same time, fertility has declined in many advanced economies, raising important questions about how changing employment conditions influence family formation and childbearing.

This conference brings together researchers from demography, sociology, economics, and related disciplines to discuss how labour market transformations interact with family dynamics. It marks the concluding event of the ERC project LABFER – Globalisation and Technology-Driven Labour Market Change and Fertility, funded by the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant No. 866207).

Submission deadline: 14 June 2026

Data release - International Mobility Panel of Migrants in Germany (IMPa) – First Wave of Cohort 1 Now Available.

International Mobility Panel of Migrants in Germany (IMPa) – First Wave of Cohort 1 Now Available.

We are happy to announce that the first wave of the International Mobility Panel of Migrants in Germany (IMPa) is now available for scientific use. IMPa is a new representative multi-cohort longitudinal online survey designed to study the drivers, patterns, and consequences of migration to Germany.

The first wave includes information from around 42,000 migrants of working age who had moved to Germany by April 2024. The dataset covers approximately 180 origin groups, including naturalised migrants, and contains rich information on migration biographies, labour market integration, social participation, language proficiency, discrimination, transnational ties, and intentions to stay, emigrate, return, or move onward.

A central innovation of IMPa is its longitudinal and cross-border design. New migrant cohorts will be surveyed every two years, with annual follow-up interviews over four years, allowing researchers to analyse both migration aspirations and realised mobility behaviour over time, including return, onward, and circular migration.

For more information and data access, see here: https://fdz.iab.de/en/pd_hd/international-mobility-panel-of-migrants-in-germany-impa-version-2425-v1/
