Dear

Welcome to the February newsletter. The year has only just started but we have so much to update you on.

January and February have been months where sport has been at the forefront, as you'll see below. As always we have alumni success stories to celebrate and new opportunities to share with you.

Annum returns to speak at Moving Forward event

Picture of Annum Hussain

At the end of January we hosted a brilliant and well-attended Moving Forward event at our Horsforth Campus.

British Gymnast and Olympic Medalist Nile Wilson kicked off the event and then there were chances to speak to various companies and industry specialists in sport and wellbeing.

This was followed by breakout sessions - one of which was with 2024 graduate Annum Hussain (Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, 2024) who is the Sports Therapist at Bradford Bulls RLFC. Annum has acheived so much in the short time since she graduated and gave an inspirational talk on what can be achieved through hard work, networking and tenacity. See more.

The day after the Moving Forward Conference we joined Sarah Todd (Sports Development & Performance Manager) in visiting alumna and paralmypic athlete Lottie McGuinness (Sport and Exercise Science, 2023).

Since graduating, Lottie has started her career in Healthcare, set a new British record and made her Paralympic debut at the Paris 2024 games.

Full story to follow soon. See more.

Varsity 2025

On Wednesday 19 February Leeds Trinity hosted a Varsity Event at our Horsforth campus battling for the trophy against a combined team of the Universities of Hull and Bradford.

We were on hand to meet our teams, get some pictures of the matches and cheer them on.

Unfortunately, Leeds Trinity didn't win on the day but there was a terrific atmosphere and all matches were competitve and played in a great spirit. See more pictures.

A hidden gem in Leeds

We were delighted to hear from alumnus and Honorary Fellow Ian Harker (Communication & Cultural Studies and Media, 2005) this month, after he shared a video he featured in about The Leeds Library, which dates back to the 1700s.

As well as Ian, also featured in the video was current student Beth Kendrew who is a member of the Library.

Beth will be undertaking a placement there later this year. Watch the video.

Featured alumni – Rich Hayden

Rich graduated from Media Production in 2000.

We regularly see Rich on campus as he films so many projects for the University, delivers masterclasses and is a panel expert we often call upon.

Rich is Managing Director of MADEBY7, a talented team of marketing professionals. He works with clients around the globe, delivering brand evolution, cutting edge digital excellence and graphic design.

We visited him at his creative agency in Headingley recently and found out more about the leading brands and new business start-ups the company works with.

He is so passionate about his work: "I learned creative media at University and now this is my business. Whilst we do all sorts of creative media, my favourite by far is the corporate films we produce - working for some household brands is a buzz."
