Welcome to week 9 - 2026!"School holidays are here and the Easter break is the perfect time to slow down, laugh louder, and make sweet memories with the kid" IN THIS EDITION:
KEY DATES 📚 Monday 20 April: All students and staff return to school NOTES We will be holding our ANZAC Assembly on the first Friday of next term, End of Term 1 Update & Easter Wishes Dear parents and guardians, As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to sincerely thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. It has been a busy and successful start to the year, and it has been wonderful to see our students engaged, enthusiastic, and striving to do their best. Throughout the term, our students have enjoyed a number of memorable experiences, including various school events, swimming classes, and our much-anticipated Easter raffle. These opportunities not only enrich learning but also help build a strong sense of community and school spirit. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making these events so successful. The Easter break is now a time for rest, relaxation, and quality family moments. I hope you enjoy this special time together and that it brings plenty of happiness and perhaps a little chocolate too. We look forward to welcoming all students back for Term 2, refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning and growth. Wishing you and your families a safe and happy Easter break! Empowered Leaders: Director General Inspired by Student-Led Visit We were absolutely thrilled to welcome the Director General of Education, Mr. Jay Peckitt, to Coolbinia Primary School last Friday! In a truly unique experience, our students took the reins, providing Mr. Peckitt with a completely student-led tour that showcased the very heart of our school’s culture. The visit was designed to highlight student voice, environmental sustainability, and the development of leadership across all year levels. Despite the "wet and windy" weather, our
student leaders shone brightly as they guided our guest through a series of engaging activities. Bushland Learning: Our Year 2 and Year 6 experts transformed our local bushland into an outdoor classroom, explaining how they observe wildlife, collect data, and take real environmental action through projects like Save the Bobtails. Leadership Challenge: In the Quad, Year 5 students challenged the Director General to a problem-solving scenario, demonstrating how they use teamwork and communication to find fair solutions. Student Voice: In the Library, students shared their reflections on how leadership learning develops from the early years through to Year 6. The Leadership Jigsaw: The visit concluded in the Staff Room with a symbolic Leadership Jigsaw, where Mr. Peckitt placed the final piece to represent how every student contributes to our school community. High Praise from the Top: Mr. Peckitt was incredibly impressed by the maturity and skill of our students. Following the visit, he shared: "It was a pleasure to meet with the students and staff. I was particularly impressed with their reflections on their leadership. Thank you for leading the tour, especially on such a wet and windy day." Most empowering of all, the Director General noted that this was the first school he has visited that was completely student-led, praising the exceptional leadership and learning skills on display. This visit was a powerful testament to our school’s commitment to fostering confident, capable leaders. As our student hosts shared in their final message: "Every student contributes something to our school community. When we all work together, the whole picture comes together." Year 2: Finn C, Isabelle A, and Samuel L *All the Year 5 students were from Room 4, as Room 3 were involved in a buddy cooking lesson at the time of the visit. A huge thank you to Ian Wilson, our hosts Sienna, Josh, Mary, and Harrison, and all the students involved for making this such a memorable and successful event!
At Coolbinia Primary School, values are at the heart of everything we do. Through the Coolbinia Way, our shared values guide how students learn, behave, and treat others, both in the classroom and beyond. We work in partnership with families to provide consistent messages that help children make positive choices, build respectful relationships, and develop responsibility. By embedding the Nine Values for Australian Schooling into everyday school life, we support students to grow into thoughtful, caring, and confident young people. At the heart of this approach is the “Coolbinia Way”, the shared values and expectations that guide our school community. We recognise that families are the primary influence in a child’s values education. As a school, our role is to work in partnership with parents and caregivers by providing clarity, guidance, and consistent messaging. Together, we support students in making sense of the world around them, particularly as they navigate the influences of peers, media, and the broader community. The Nine Values for Australian Schooling form a strong foundation for this work: • Care and Compassion • Integrity By embedding these values into daily school life, we not only support academic success but also nurture thoughtful, respectful, and responsible young people who are well prepared to contribute positively to society.
As we move through the Easter season, it offers a valuable opportunity to pause and reflect. In a world that can often feel fast-paced and uncertain, and with many challenges being faced across the globe, this time reminds us of the importance of kindness, gratitude, and connection. Over the holidays, we encourage families to take a moment to appreciate the simple things time together, acts of care, and the support we give one another. It is also a meaningful time to talk with children about empathy and compassion, and how even small acts of kindness within our own community can make a big difference. Perth Glory Inspires Students at PE Classes! We were thrilled to welcome Perth Glory to our school today for a special PE session for Years 4, 5, and 6 on the oval. The trainers and two professional female players led students through fun and engaging training exercises, sharing tips and insights from the professional level. The sunny weather made it the perfect day for outdoor activity and the students were inspired by the skill, enthusiasm, and energy of the team. Everyone also received a special lanyard from the club, making the experience even more memorable. A huge thank you to Perth Glory for visiting! It was a fantastic opportunity to motivate our students, promote active lifestyles, and celebrate school spirit!
Development of British Colonies: On Monday, Room 3 and Room 4 visited Fremantle Prison. It is one of the oldest buildings in Western Australia. It was made by convicts who came to the Swan River Colony to build roads and public buildings because there weren’t enough people to do those jobs. It was amazing to see where the prisoners used to live and learn about how they were treated. The cells were so small. Moondyne Joe’s cell was lined with thick wood as he kept escaping, but he still won his freedom in the end. Roundhouse: It all started on a Monday afternoon, when the Year 5’s from CPS went to the Roundhouse in Fremantle. You are probably wondering, what is the Roundhouse? Well, the Roundhouse is the first prison, not for convicts, built in the Swan River Colony. The Roundhouse was able to hold up to 40 prisoners and is the oldest public building in Western Australia. At the end of the tour Mr Owen got to fire a real cannon at 1pm! It was a memorable experience for everyone, so make sure to clear a day on your calendar for a visit. Thank you to the parent volunteers that helped us on the day.
Meal Train Service The Meal Train Service will be up and running from Term 2. It is a simple yet meaningful way to show kindness, build connections, and support one another within our community. The family we are supporting is a family of five adults and one child. Families can assist by providing a meal and selecting a suitable date using the link below. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. To sign up and choose a day to provide a meal, please visit: Thank you for your kindness and ongoing support of our school community. Year 6 Pop Art Portraits Our Year 6 students created these striking portraits using a technique called reverse drawing and painting on clear plastic sheets. This reverse process keeps the black lines crisp and clean when viewed from the front, resulting in vibrant, pop art–style artworks. Each piece celebrates the students’ individuality, creativity, and thoughtful artistic decision-making.
Kindy Green and Yellow got creative this week by drawing their very own Easter bunnies. Their colourful, playful artworks are a fun way to get into the Easter spirit!
