Hello School of Communication Family,
As the Assistant Dean for Advising and Student Life, I love this time of year! Spring brings so much excitement—new admits are exploring campus through tours and Panther for a Day programming (shoutout to our amazing SoC student tour guides and admission volunteers!), summer and fall registration is just around the corner, and our seniors are preparing for graduation and their next steps.
Through it all, your School of Communication Advising and Peer Mentoring teams are here for you! We offer both drop-in and appointment times five days a week on the second floor of Doti Hall. You can always check the latest advising schedule here.
Our Peer Mentors are also a great resource! They can help you navigate your Program Evaluation, prep for registration, apply for internships, explore minors, and learn about campus resources. You can find their hours on the SoC Information Portal Calendar on Canvas or fill out this form and one of them will reach out to you.

Chapman Radio Experiences IBS in New York City!
Chapman Radio just attended the 2025 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference and Award Ceremony in Times Square, New York City. This is the 86-year-old national organization that college radio stations from around the country attend and submit audio for award consideration.
Not only did Chapman Radio learn a lot about broadcast and audio during the conference, but they were also nominated for 10 national college radio awards. At the award ceremony, they took home four national college radio awards! The following national award winners are:
- Best Specialty Show (Non-Music) – RealiTea Check: Megan Lasala, Cecilia Ward, Maya Milne, Brooke Duncan
- Best Show Promotional Poster - State of Mind- Press Start!: Chloe Wong, Lisa Wong
- Best Social Media Campaign - Is it OK?- Is Hookup Culture OK?: Maika Suaya, Smith Romney
- Best Streaming Only Station (Under 10,000 students) – Chapman Radio
Chapman Radio is especially proud to be named the best-streaming college radio station in the country. This is the fourth year in a row they have been nominated, and they have finally taken home the top spot. Summer Travel Course Opportunity | The Northern Ireland Conflict and Peace Process
Chapman students are invited to receive direct exposure to the people, politics and realities of the Northern Ireland conflict and its evolving peace process as they transit between the difficult and contested geographies of Northern Ireland as well as the Republic of Ireland.

Looking for guidance within the School of Communication? Peer mentors are here to help! Whether you need advice on classes, help with program evaluations, study tips, campus resources, or just someone to talk to, connecting with a peer mentor can make your SoC experience smoother and more rewarding. Don’t hesitate to reach out—they’re students just like you, ready to support and guide you on your academic journey! During the semester, they will be available during walk-in hours in the second-floor lobby of Doti Hall, or if you can't make it to walk-in hours, fill out this form, and one of our Peer Mentors will reach out to you. Celebrating Faculty Excellence
The gift will establish the Or Initiative lead by Dr. Vikki Katz Professor in the School of Communication and the Fletcher Jones Endowed Chair in Free Speech. This initiative will provide students with the tools to navigate complex discussions with intellectual depth, historical understanding, and empathy.
School of Communication Associate Professor Sara LaBelle co-published Student-to-Student Confirmation: A Review and Recommendations for Research in Review of Communication.
School of Communication Professor Jennifer Bevan has been named an associate editor for the international, interdisciplinary Journal of Social and Personal Relationships.
Graduate Programs Information
4 +1 Integrated Undergraduate/ Masters of Health and Strategic Communication
The 4+1 Integrated Undergraduate/ Masters of Health and Strategic Communication at Chapman University allows students to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in just five years. Students complete undergraduate coursework in the first three years, take a mix of undergraduate and graduate classes in year four, and finish graduate coursework in year five to obtain an MS in Strategic Communication. The program offers in-demand skills, real-world applications, and a time-efficient pathway to careers in public health campaigns, organizational communication, and health education. Open to Chapman undergraduates in relevant communication fields, the program provides a streamlined transition, personalized academic guidance, and enhanced job qualifications.

These internships are for a total of 6-8 weeks each, 24 – 40 hours per week, and pay $16.50 per hour. Internships offer hands-on experiences, opportunities to build relationships and learn about arts administration, as well as free and discounted tickets!

POTOZKIN + ELLIS | Digital Marketing and Social Media Specialist Intern
Be part of an exciting growing team at the cutting edge of Cosmetic and Surgical Dermatology. The intern is responsible for overseeing the online social media presence for Jerome R. Potozkin, M.D. Duties include planning content, creating and updating social media posting schedules, replying to comments from subscribers, and reaching out to influencers in the health and beauty space. Searching current news sources for stories relevant to dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, and skincare for Newjacking (commenting on these stories or creating spin-offs of these stories)
Qualifications:
- Enthusiastic attitude and interest in the Health & Beauty Industry
- Self-starter who doesn’t need to be micromanaged. Ability to work collaboratively with Dr. Potozkin, Courtney Shelton and Goldman Marketing
- Knowledge of social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Youtube.
- Ability to film and edit content for social media platforms.

Chapman Radio is an independent, internet-only radio station run entirely by Chapman students. Work with Chapman Radio and gain real-world experience: technical training, on-air procedures, understanding and complying with FCC regulations, promotions and marketing, studio and live engineering, web development and industry communications.
