Trustees of HBPCT send their heartfelt sympathies to those who have been personally impacted by this disaster. Indeed, the region as a whole has been impacted beyond belief. As we watched events unfold, Unison management kept us well informed of the actions they were taking. They responded to our questions immediately and provided accurate information that we could pass on to the power consumers who contacted us directly. Trustees have been exceptionally proud of Unison’s response to the cyclone. They took the lead in many instances, communicated accurately and delivered on what they promised. Power consumers in Hawke’s Bay have every right to be very proud of their consumer-owned lines company. ETNZ ConferenceTwo Trustees attended the Electricity Trusts of New Zealand (ETNZ) conference in Wellington on 11-12 May, with one of the biggest messages coming from the politician’s forum. Representatives from Labour, National, ACT and TOP parties took part in a lively exchange of policy, and from the Trust’s perspective, it was reassuring that all parties recognised the benefits of Trust ownership of lines companies. Ken Sutherland presented at the conference on the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle, which drew a lot of interest and discussion. There was a strong focus on climate change and what we can do to adapt to the changing environment. Unison Ownership ReviewEvery five years the Trust is required to undertake an Ownership Review of Unison. This is currently underway with Trustees requesting the Directors to produce a report considering proposals and available options for the future ownership of the shares. The report will be available to the public with submissions opening on 15 September 2023 and closing on 16 October, before being made available to the public on 18 October. A public meeting to hear submissions is on 10 November, followed by a public meeting for Trustees to make a decision on 17 November. It is hoped that power consumers will take an interest in this review and become fully informed of the issues. Winter Energy Saving TipsWinter has struck and most of us are facing hefty power bills. Here are some energy savings tips that really can make a difference: Annual Trust Dividend Payment for 2023Trustees are aware that many power consumers are wanting to know if the annual dividend will be affected by the colossal impact of Cyclone Gabrielle. Trustees are currently in discussions with Unison around this matter. We are well aware of how much the dividend is valued by Hawke’s Bay power consumers, especially in times of unprecedented hardship. Once the figures have been worked up, Trustees will be able to announce the value of the dividend payment at their Annual Public Meeting.
