Cheers to 50 Years!Patricia Happie Ladew was a brilliantly creative painter, sculptor and writer who never met an animal she didn't love. Wherever Pat chose to live and work throughout her life, she managed to surround herself with her adored cats and dogs. For a while, even an amazingly affectionate Ocelot named Max was one of Pat's best loved housemates. Her real favorites, however, the ones for whom she always kept a special place in her bottomless heart, were the strays. It was for them that she formed and funded the "Oyster Bay Cat Foundation, Inc." in 1975, a non-profit organization expressly created to address the problem of homeless cats on Long Island and beyond. For the next 27 years, Pat devoted a generous amount of her time, creative energy and resources to the work of her foundation. After her death in 2002, the foundation was formally renamed "Patricia H. Ladew Foundation, Inc." Now, in its sixth decade, the Patricia H. Ladew Foundation, Inc., true to Pat's mission, continues to provide ownerless cats with hope, love, medical care and housing. ![]() Our celebratory logo was designed by Meagan Martinetion In celebration of our 50 years of saving cats, we plan to have several events throughout the year highlighting some of our life-saving programs. We wouldn't have made it 50 years without the support of our followers so Cheers to 50 Years to you for helping us help cats for over five decades! ![]() Patricia Happie Ladew Save The Dates!Hope you can join us at Hive Market in Oyster Bay to support the kitties for a "no sew" fleece blanket workshop with a nautical theme! Blankets are roughly 3' x 3' and can be taken home for your furry friends to enjoy or donated to the sanctuary. We will also be making catnip toys using scraps from the blankets -- both are a huge hit with our feline friends! Come and meet fellow cat people, learn about the sanctuary and maybe pop by the sanctuary for a tour afterwards - it's right around the corner from the Hive Market! See you there!! ![]() Save the Date!! Details for our All Paws on Deck Adoption Event at the Whaling Museum Coming Soon! Sponsor Boots for Valentine's Day!Boots before and after surgery Poor Boots has been suffering for some time with a condition known as entropion (when the eyelids roll towards the corneas). We all know how uncomfortable it is to have one lash in your eye, let alone all of them! Boots was part of an urgent rescue effort. His loving owner ended up in the hospital and, at the same time, the house lost its heat (during the coldest spell that we had last month). The Ladew team raced to the house, collected all the cats and brought them to safety (and warmth!). Boots had surgery with our friends at Animal Surgical Center on January 27th and although he is still healing, he is already feeling so much better! The surgery and cost were unexpected but you can help by sponsoring Boots for Valentine's Day -- we can even send a thank you from Boots to your special cat-loving someone!
