CHS: Inspiring girls to discover and pursue their personal exellence.

Dear Alumnae,

It has been a busy beginning to the year at Crofton House School - students are back on campus, events for alumnae are being prepared and things are more lively than ever.

These next few months will mark the end of the school’s 125th Birthday festivities, which will culminate in the 125th Celebration Event at Parq Vancouver on November 24.

Whole Girl, Whole World with Monique Gray Smith

This week saw the first Whole Girl, Whole World speaker of the school year. This series is an opportunity for the whole school community to engage with thought-provoking topics and discuss the ways we can all support students to thrive and positively influence the world around them.

This well-attended evening was the first time Whole Girl, Whole World has been held during Truth and Reconciliation Week and Crofton House and the CHS Parents’ Auxiliary were especially grateful to host presenter Monique Gray Smith, author, educator and public speaker.

Monique is an award-winning Cree, Lakota and Scottish author, whose speaking engagements revolve around hope, resilience, education, wellness and the important teaching that love is medicine.

Alumnae Spirit at Crofton House

Each June, two students in the Senior School are celebrated through Alumnae Association awards that recognize courage and fairness.

The Rosemary Barratt McTavish Scholarship was established by the Alumnae Association in 1989 in memory of Rosemary who graduated in 1965 and was a very active member of the Alumnae Association and long-time supporter of the school. Rosemary was well known for her strength of will, and it wasn’t her words but her actions that spoke of her incredible courage and fierce determination to try to overcome her illness.

This scholarship recognizes a student in Grade 8 who is a daughter, granddaughter, or great-granddaughter of a Crofton House School alumna and/or old girl whose courage, generosity of spirit and tenacity have selflessly put the needs of others first and has inspired others with her example.

The Crofton House School Alumnae Association Prize for Fair Play was first presented in 1940 as the Crofton House Alumnae Sportsmanship Prize, and this book prize is awarded to a Grade 11 or 12 student who has displayed the qualities of fair play in all facets of her life - not only in sports but in everyday situations.

Congratulations to both students who received these awards this year.
