Stage one works updateHalf of the newly sealed car park at Naval Point-Te Nukutai o Tapoa will open today (Wednesday 22 December) in time for the summer holidays. Rainy weather has held up the job, which was scheduled for completion by the end of the year. Work on the remaining part of the car park will re-start in mid-January, while a second phase of works for the western side of the car park area will start after Waitangi weekend. Breakwater trialFeedback is still wanted from Naval Point users about the proposed location of a breakwater at the site, following a trial at the end of November. Temporary buoys were put in place to see if the location worked for boaties and other water sports enthusiasts that use the area. The trial breakwater did not provide any break from wind or wave action, but was for users to review the location as a first step in the design process. Send any feedback to Kristine.bouw@ccc.govt.nz The trial also highlighted the popularity of the boat ramp, which is used at all times of the day and year – even in bad weather. It demonstrated the need for an upgrade to the public boat ramp and the importance of separating the launch area from other recreational uses. Leasing of landThe Council wants to hear from any not-for-profit sports, recreational and community organisations interested in using land at Naval Point-Te Nukutai o Tapoa for water based recreational activities. Groups have until 30 March 2022 to make an expression of interest to occupy part of the land at Naval Point-Te Nukutai o Tapoa, Lyttelton.
