March 2023 Inside this issue:
Lucky Ladewbie Edward and his mom win the adoption lottery!Edward was born with pectus excavatum (an abnormality of the cartilage of the sternum and rib cage) and had surgery to correct the condition on January 16, 2023 at the Animal Surgical Center. After 6 weeks of recovery, Edward had his last checkup last week and the results are in -- his surgery was a success and he was given the all clear to find his forever home! Edward's good fortune didn't stop there -- last week, he met long time Ladew supporter, Robin. He worked his lucky charms on her and she not only opened up her heart and home to Edward, but took his mama, Elizabeth too!!!! ☘️ Burrito's new paws are walking in his new home!In our February issue of Ladew Mews, we introduced you to 14 year-old, four-paw-declawed Burrito, who was relinquished to Animal Care Centers due to aggression. Burrito had a reason to be short-tempered -- he was in pain due to his all-four-declawed paws. There were remnants of bone left in all 18 of his toes, which would feel like walking on pebbles in your shoes. Surgery was performed on February 17, 2023 with Dr. Michal Hess of Glendale Veterinary Clinic to remove the remnants left behind and to reposition his toe pads. Burrito's right rear paw before (left) and after surgery to remove the fragments left behind and reposition the paw pads so that walking will be more comforable. Although Burrito wasn't lucky to be declawed, his luck turned around when he was rescued through a joint effort by The Paw Project and Patricia H. Ladew Foundation. Burrito is not only feeling better, but has been adopted by a wonderful family -- he's even thinking of taking up piano in his retirement! ☘️ Extend Good Luck to a Ladew Rescue Kitty! For just $25 you can extend good luck to a Ladew rescue kitty by sending a Pot O' Gold Sponsorship (or gift sponsorship) to a kitty in need. You can even sponsor an entire litter and help us with the medical costs involved in getting kittens ready (spay/neuter, vaccines, testing, nutritional food) for adoption. Sponsoring a cat will help us pay for anything they need while waiting for their forever home. Sponsors will receive thank you letters from the kitties they sponsor and much gratitude from us. ☘️ Happie Cat TailsKaty and Helene Our Seniors for Seniors program continues to match senior citizens with senior kitties. This month we placed four sweet senior kitties: Katy, Mittens and Luna lollipop, and Cleo into their forever homes. Katy lost her home when her owner passed away. Helene's kitty crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and Helene was looking for companionship. She and Katy hit it off immediately! Mittens (on chair), Luna Lollipop and Margaret Margaret was looking for a bonded pair of kitties and we knew the perfect match! Mittens and Luna Lollipop (Mittens is Luna's mom!) were recently given up by their family due to allergies -- when Margaret met the pair, she knew it was meant to be! Cleo's owner went into a nursing home and Cleo lost the only home she had ever known. She ended up at a municipal shelter. She was traumatized by the turn of events and it took a long time for her to trust again. We knew that whoever adopted her would have to be very patient with her and give her enough time to feel secure. When Steve and Nora met Cleo, it was challenge accepted! In less than a week, Cleo is already feeling like she's home. Our Seniors for Seniors program pays for the reasonable future medical care of a senior cat adopted by an approved senior citizen. The program has been very successful with 30 cats placed into loving homes. If you would like to help us help more senior cats, please consider donating today! ☘️ Steve and Nora opened up their home to Cleo |
