Message from the Director, Advancement

Dear Crofton House Community,

I'm looking forward to experiencing my first CHS Golf Classic, and I encourage you to join us at the University Golf Club for this special community event on Friday, May 29.

Our fantastic volunteer committees have been working hard to make this year’s tournament one to remember. Proceeds from the day will support the ongoing care of The Woods, as well as the creation of an outdoor classroom that will give our students and the community a unique learning space and increase accessibility to a beloved campus resource.

If you’re interested in attending, please register here to secure your spot soon. You won't want to miss out on 18 holes of friendly competition interspersed with engaging on-course experiences, including a hand roll bar sponsored by Hello Nori. I hear this was a big hit at last year's tournament!

Not a golfer? Come join us for dinner and bid on items and experiences from our silent and live auctions. There's truly something for everyone!

I hope to see you on the course, or at the celebratory dinner and auction in the evening.

If you experience technical difficulties or have any questions, please see our Golf FAQs at the bottom of the golf webpage or email golf@croftonhouse.ca.

Warmly,

Sarah Nikkel
Director, Advancement

Purposeful Parenting Resources

Who’s In Charge? Parenting with Love and Boundaries

On Friday, April 10, the Junior School welcomed Patti Drobot (B.Sc. O.T., Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) and Adjunct Faculty, Neufeld Institute). Patti outlined how children feel emotionally at rest and are able to mature when adults hold the caring alpha role, explored how parents and caregivers can take that lead in their relationship with their children so that children feel safe, supported and able to grow, and shared examples of what a strong, compassionate alpha parent looks like. Read the takeaways from Patti’s presentation.

Learning Together Events

Seeing the Whole Picture—Celebrating Neurodiversity in Our Community

We are excited to welcome Dr Rae Morris, Registered Clinical Social Worker, to Crofton House on Thursday, April 23, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, in the theatre of the Beedie Fine Arts Centre. This session introduces the neurodiversity perspective and explores how it supports all children in developing a strong sense of identity, self-esteem, and resilience. Join us for an evening focused on celebrating the diverse ways children learn and experience the world. RSVP and submit your questions by end of day today, Thursday, April 16.

Senior School Personal Counsellor Coffee Morning: Celebrating Neurodiversity in Our Community

Senior School parents are invited to join the Senior School Counselling and Learning Strategies/Inclusive Education Departments for a coffee morning on Monday, April 27, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge. This drop-in gathering will continue the conversation from the above-mentioned whole school Learning Together session “Seeing the Whole Picture—Celebrating Neurodiversity in Our Community” on April 23, and offer a chance to discuss topics that emerged. While this session will address topics from the session, all Senior School parents are welcome.

What You Need to Know

  • The Route: The bus will service three main locations in Richmond.
  • Full Enrolment: To make the route viable, we require a full-year commitment from all participating families.
  • Financials: The total cost will be divided among participating families (no school subsidy).

Action Required: If you live in Richmond, please look for a detailed email. It will contain specific stop locations and a link to the Expression of Interest form. Your feedback is essential to determine if this pilot program will proceed.

Student Experience

Check out this edition’s highlights gallery for a glimpse into Language and Culture Week, the Grade 4 Outdoor Education Camp, the Senior School’s Makers Market, Junior School Buddies, the Grade 11/12 Career Conference, and more!

Senior Kindergarten students brought months of care and collaboration to fruition in their annual Tulip Market last week. After planting and nurturing tulip bulbs in the fall, they harvested their blooms this spring and welcomed families to purchase stems at their vibrant market stalls. Students managed each step of the process—from cultivation to sales—supported by their teachers! Funds raised will support hosting a special Gratitude Party for staff later this Term, as well as purchasing next year’s bulbs—continuing the cycle and keeping a blossoming partnership going year to year!

In their recent Ivy Day focused on racial justice, Grade 9 students explored identity, power, and belonging through local and global examples, creative reflection, and hands-on learning. Guided by questions about safety, visibility, and representation, students examined how race shapes everyday experiences and systems—from media to education—and discovered how art and language can be powerful tools for resistance and joy. Partnering with LOVE BC, students also created zines to share their voices and participated in wellness activities like nature walks and birding!

In the Junior School, students are preparing for their first track and field meet and sharpening skills in field hockey. Meanwhile, Senior School athletes have celebrated strong results at the Port Moody Badminton Invitational, Sandpiper Golf Tournament, Argyle Junior Soccer Tournament, Tennis ISA Championships, and their first track meet of the season. Read more about recent athletics highlights on the blog.

CHS Parents' Auxiliary

Tools for School: CHS Parents, You Crushed It!

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we far exceeded our goal, and with your donations, we are able to provide 450 backpacks—our biggest year yet! We continue to collaborate with the Vancouver School Board and the YWCA’s Single Mothers’ Support Service, and because of you, hundreds of students across the Lower Mainland will start the school year equipped and confident.

Now for the fun part… we need your help putting the backpacks together! Students and parents are invited to get together in Manrell Hall and pack backpacks on Tuesday, May 5 (and/or deliver them on Wednesday, May 6). Sign up here to lend a hand.

Calling All Junior Kindergarten-Grade 3 Parents!

We still need your help to make Grandparents’ Day (Friday, April 24) extra special! We’re looking for a few more parent volunteers to assist with setting up and taking down decorations on Thursday, April 23 and Friday, April 24. If you have a talent for floral arrangements, we’d love your creative touch, too! If you’re able to lend a hand (you’re welcome to choose multiple time slots), sign up here.

Reminder: Service Together with Backpack Buddies

There is still room for Senior School students and parents to participate in an upcoming Parents’ Auxiliary event to volunteer with Backpack Buddies! Join us Tuesday, April 28, to travel by bus to Backpack Buddies, leaving the school at 3:30 pm and returning to CHS at 7:00 pm. Families will go to the Backpack Buddies Warehouse in North Vancouver, where they will help pack bags of food and essential goods for children supported by Backpack Buddies. See the email from Monday, April 13, for more details, and sign up here by Monday, April 20

Around the World at CHS!

What an incredible afternoon at the well-attended Multicultural Celebration! The vibrant diversity of our community was on full display as students and families explored cultures from 15 countries around the world through engaging activities, including traditional games and writing in different languages, as well as tasting food samples and live demonstrations of kimchi making and Vietnamese cooking.

A heartfelt thank you to the parents and CHS community members who thoughtfully created booths and activities and generously shared their cultures with us. Special thanks to event chairs Mandi Gharlay and Olivia Cheung, and their hardworking volunteer team, for bringing this wonderful event to life. View the gallery here.
