Lyttelton Recreation Grounds formal openingThe new sports courts at the Lyttelton Recreation Ground will be named after community stalwart, volunteer and advocate Flora McGregor. The “Flora Courts” will be dedicated at the official opening of the newly revamped Lyttelton Recreation Grounds on Saturday 7 February, from 1-2pm. The Lyttelton Recreation Ground Reserve Management Committee (LRGRMC) recommended naming the courts after Flora McGregor, who passed away in 2023. Ms McGregor was a driving force behind the inclusion of netball courts at the Grounds. The proposal was supported by Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke, Lyttelton Netball and the McGregor whanau. Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board approved the proposal at their meeting on 2 February. Lyttelton Recreation Grounds opening event When: Saturday 7 February, 1-2pm The event will be hosted by Christchurch City Council, representatives from Ngāti Wheke and the McGregor whanau. The Lyttelton Recreation Ground redevelopment project finished late last year and involved installing a new multi-sport zone, building a new change pavilion and overhauling the rugby fields.
