From the MayorOver the past century, Ku-ring-gai has a proud history of contributing to conflicts and peacekeeping operations. In World War I alone, around 1,300 men and women from our area enlisted. Tragically, one in five never returned.
Just as those ANZACs lived through a time of turmoil and uncertainty, we too face a different but no less complex world today. Conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe are having ripple effects across the globe. Tensions simmer in places where peace once seemed secure. We need only glance at the headlines to be reminded that peace is never guaranteed. Peace is fragile and must be protected. Tomorrow, we will come together as a community to honour those who have served at special ANZAC Day services across Ku-ring-gai, starting with the Dawn Service in Roseville. We honour them to underline how important peace is in our own community. When we choose empathy over indifference, unity over fear and peace over conflict, we carry forward their legacy. Lest we forget. Mayor Christine Kay
