Congratulations to each of you for securing your place to study with us and for joining our diverse and dynamic community of academics, professional services colleagues, students and alumni. Starting at University is a big step and the first few days on campus are both exciting and slightly overwhelming as you receive a lot of information, need to find your way around our (beautiful) campus as well as around Amory Building, and meet a lot of new people. At Exeter Law School we are all here to help you settle in into your new life. You are now beginning the next phase of your academic life at one of the UK’s top Law Schools and it is important to recognise that your Law degree is a rigorous, demanding and challenging course – but it is also a fascinating and impactful degree which can be incredibly rewarding! You will be taught by renowned experts, you will have plenty of opportunities to engage with the life of the Law School and of the University, you will be able to join Societies that align with your passions and interests, you will meet some fantastic people… so make the most of every moment by attending classes, discussing with your subject academics and peers, and engaging in legal and critical thinking. I encourage you to be curious and inquisitive, to aim high, to follow your passions, and to be kind to one another. We will be here to support you - don't be afraid to ask questions throughout your journey. Remember to reach out to your subject academics and your academic personal tutor if you need support. Should you want to discuss something that’s more personal than academic, you can contact Sarah or Jay, the Law School’s fantastic pastoral mentors. Mabel, the Law School’s therapy dog in training, is also here to provide support, comfort and lots of cuddles! It is a real pleasure for us to welcome you to Exeter Law School and I very much look forward to meeting you. Best wishes, Education Matters with David Yuratich Hello, It is my pleasure to welcome you to Exeter Law School. I am the Director of Education and Student Experience, and you will meet me during Welcome Week.
My role is to ensure your programme runs smoothly, that the school promotes the highest levels of rigour and inclusion, and that you are supported to achieve your potential. I work closely with the directors of each of our undergraduate programmes and with your module convenors to make this happen. I welcome feedback from you on any aspect of the student experience at any point in the year. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with the various services of the University to support you and your goals. I’d also encourage you to promise yourself that you will get to know your personal tutor this year; this is your personal connection with the academic staff of the School – the person who will champion you in your academic and professional life. May I wish you every success on your academic journey, and I look forward to supporting you and celebrating your achievements. Best wishes, 👋Welcome Week Induction🙂 Your first week is an exciting and information packed few days. To help your induction week run smoothly there are some key things you need to do before you arrive. Then once you're on campus there are Timetabled induction sessions some of which are for all students and others which are Law specific. (Repeat sessions are included for your information but please only attend YOUR timetabled sessions.) You'll also have the opportunity to meet your academic tutor, a member of staff who will meet with you frequently during your studies. You can access your timetable via the University's New Student Guide or via the MyExeter App 📣Getting Started Guide for Law Students📒 Our new Getting Started Guide, is a great introduction to academic life in the Law School. As well as the link below you'll find it on the Law School Gateway of ELE (the Exeter Learning Environment). You'll find the guide useful throughout your first year.
Two students, Ella and Mia, have created a more general guide to university life. It's especially useful for new students and those who are the first in their family to come to university. 🎓Mooting🎓
