2022 South West Health Professionals Network Health Forum

Registrations for the 2022 South West Health Professionals Network Health Forum are now open!

The South West Health Professionals Network together with St John of God Bunbury Hospital is pleased to host a unique, one-day health forum for health professionals in the South West. Featuring professional development workshops and networking drinks, this event will provide health professionals in the South West with a locally-delivered education and social opportunity.

Long table lunch event - Bariatric surgery with Dr Senarath Werapitiya

General practitioner education and lunch event at St Aidan Wines.

The South West Health Professionals Network and St John of God Bunbury Hospital would like to invite South West general practitioners to attend an educational long table lunch in the Ferguson Valley.

Enjoy a delicious lunch at St Aidan Wines, in the heart of the Ferguson Valley, while listening to guest presenter Dr Senarath Werapitiya, a general surgeon specialising in bariatric surgery.

Introducing the new Program Officer for the South West Health Professionals Network (SWHPN), Jolijn Thompson

Meet the Program Officer for the South West Health Professionals Network (SWHPN), Jolijn Thompson. Jolijn is a Registered Nurse who works as a Practice Nurse part time and has prior experience in medical research, administration/events and Human Resources.

Jolijn has lived in the South West for 14 years with her family and enjoys the regions strong sense of community and stunning natural landscape.

Based in Busselton, Jolijn works Mondays and Wednesdays. If you’d like assistance from the SWHPN with promoting any upcoming events or if you have suggestions for education and networking events, please contact Jolijn at jolijn.thompson@swhpn.com.au.

Health Workforce Scholarship Program now open!

The Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health, administered in WA by Rural Health West. The HWSO provides scholarships and bursaries to help health professionals in remote and rural Australia retain and enhance their skills, capacity and scope of practice.

Applications can be submitted online from 1 September to 10 October 2022.  Further information and the online application form is available on the website.

Sharing the Challenges & Appreciation of Rural Practice (SCARP)

Working as a rural and remote doctor can be a steep slope of learning. Join the South West medical community for relaxed two-hour interactive sessions exploring unique case presentations and experiences from local hospital doctors and GPs. Medical students are welcome.

New Black Dog Institute resources

Black Dog Institute have released a collection of helpful mental health resources, evidence-based tools and advice for healthcare workers that may be of benefit to rural health professionals.

They cover the following topics:

  • Managing your mental health
  • Managing burnout and stress
  • Looking after myself
  • Looking after a team

Bunbury Mental Health Week & South West Mental Health & AOD Directory Launch

WA Primary Health Alliance Primary Health Alliance is partnering with Pathways South West and the Bunbury Mental Health Week Consortium to launch Bunbury Mental Health Week activities at a free community event Monday 10 October, 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Geographe Room, Quality Lighthouse Hotel, Bunbury

Join local MP, the Hon Don Punch MLA, for some live music and light refreshments and find out about the Bunbury Mental Health Week activities.  It will also be an opportunity to find out more about  a new directory of local mental health and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) that will soon be available for people living in the South West.

Compound Eyes' manifest from our individual, combined interest, research and existing work relating to Moths, Bees & Beetles, both real and imagined. We are all passionate about Printmaking – mono prints, collographs, intaglio techniques plus the largest group of the animal kingdom living in south Western Australia, the Insects.
