Good afternoon,

The US Department of Commerce and Census Bureau released the monthly Import/Export data yesterday.

With 3,520,391 barrels, imported beer declined by -0.6% in May 2022 compared to May 2021. Imported beer from Belgium, Poland, and Canada were the largest contributors to declines in volume for May. The Belgium numbers are due to the shift in production of Stella to the U.S. by Anheuser-Busch. In terms of growth, Mexican imports continue as the strongest growth driver, although growth has slowed, up 5.5% compared to May 2021 and up 4.2% compared to May 2019. Even with the slowing of growth for the month of May, Mexican imports accounted for 69% of total import growth. The second-largest contributor to growth was imported beer from the Netherlands (up 9.4% compared to May 2021). Imports from Italy also had a strong month, up 33.7% compared to last year.
