July 2024 Kia ora koutou Welcome to another edition of the Need-to-Know newsletter for 2024. Winter has well and truly set in across the country and I hope you’re managing to keep warm. We have highlighted some tribunal decisions; I encourage you to have a read of these and take note of the learnings from them. We have also included an article from our investigations team with some information on how you can help make a difference to the Motor Vehicle scheme, by reporting unregistered trading you see. Take care, work safely, and thank you for taking the time to read this edition of the newsletter. Duncan Connor Report unregistered tradingRegistered Traders are often well placed to identify and report those who are unlawfully trading. Once reported, the Registrar can take appropriate compliance action. Decisions from the Motor Vehicle Disputes TribunalTwo recent decisions made by the Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal relate to traders not complying with Consumer Guarantees Act. In both cases, the Tribunal ruled in the customer's favour and in one case the trader was ordered to pay and in the other the trader was required to repair the vehicle.
