String Orchestra

Last weekend our string orchestra students participated in the 44th WA Schools' Junior Concert Band Festival which is run in partnership with the Australian Band and Orchestra Director's Association (WA) and was held at Churchlands Senior High School.

They performed three pieces: Citadel by Stephen Chin, Fiddle Fever by Keith Sharp and Sarabande by Handel.

Following the performance, the orchestra participated in a workshop held by one of the adjudicators and we received some very positive feedback.

We would like to thank Mrs Helen Milner for her work with the orchestra. The students did a great job on Saturday! Click HERE for photos.

The aims of the WA Schools' Junior Concert Band Festival are

  • to give bands a performance opportunity at an international standard venue
  • give ensemble members an opportunity to hear other ensembles perform
  • provide each ensemble with constructive comments from a panel of informed adjudicators
  • present each ensemble with an adjudication and certificate which recognises its participation and standard of performance.

We received many complimentary comments. You can listen to our performance at the following links:   Item 1   Item 2   Item 3

Interschool Athletics Carnival

What an exciting and action-packed two days we had at the Interschool Athletics Carnival! Subiaco competed alongside Mt Hawthorn, Floreat, Karrinyup, and Wembley. The weather was on our side, with two beautiful days of sunshine that set the perfect stage for both athletes and supporters alike.

Day 1
The carnival kicked off with Long Jump, Throws, and the challenging Middle Distance races. Our Year 3-6 athletes gave it their all, demonstrating superb technique and endurance. It was a joy to see Subiaco students giving their best and pushing their limits in every event.

Day 2
The second day brought the electric energy of sprints, team games, and relays. The track was buzzing with excitement as Year 1- 6 athletes raced toward the finish line, while teamwork and coordination shone during the relays and team games. Subiaco displayed fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship across the board.

At the end of the two days, Subiaco finished in 4th place overall. While we didn’t take home the top spot, the effort, dedication, and enthusiasm of our students made us incredibly proud. They represented the school with pride and determination, showing what it truly means to be part of the Subiaco team.

Congratulations to these students who were rewarded with the following individual honours:

Chloe W M – Year 3 Runner Up Champion Girl

Lola A – Year 4 Champion Girl

James P – Year 4 Runner Up Champion Boy

Margot J – Year 5 Champion Girl

Well done to all our athletes and a big thank you to our staff, families, and supporters who helped make this event a success. We look forward to building on this year’s experience and coming back even stronger next year!

Congratulations

Congratulations to Adi K from Year 6, who took out a Silver Medal at a recent Gymnastics Competition.

Adi competed in Bars, Vault, Beam and Floor routines against over 100 other competitors in Levels 3-5.

Adi's next competition is coming up this weekend, where she hopes to be able to go one better and take home a Gold medal.

Comfy Dress Day

In addition to running the Coin Challenge this past fortnight, the Social Justice Group have also organised a Comfy Dress Day next week! All proceeds will also go to Care Bags!

On the last day of Term 3 (Friday 20 September) everyone is invited to bring in a gold coin donation to dress COMFY! Comfortable dress may look different to all, but for inspiration think Oodies, pyjamas and loungewear.

Thank you in advance for helping those in our community who are in need.

SRC Mascot

The 2024 Student Representative Council was asked by the students to introduce the idea of a school mascot. We set out to get suggestions from students. We received many ideas, so we had to make a shortlist of the ones we thought represented the school well. We sent out the final list to the teachers so that each class could vote for the one they liked most. The SRC counted the votes to see which idea got the most votes and ………………

THE LION WON!!!

The school mascot will be a lion, but how should the lion look? We asked the students. Miss Turner organised boxes to be put in the lower hall and upper hall for students to submit their designs on what they thought the lion could look like and how it could represent Subiaco Primary School. There were 118 responses!

We picked the top 7 that included designs from Lucinda from U7, Shreeya from U2, Margot from U3, Barney from M3, Naomi from L9. Ollie from L3, and Mahjari from LP2. The SRC would like to congratulate all the participants and top 7 for submitting their designs.

Since the students were involved in the process of choosing a mascot, they were given another opportunity to vote for their favourite design amongst the ones chosen by the SRC team. The winner will work with Miss Hayley, a very talented sewer, to create a 3D handmade mascot inspired by the student’s design.

After the mascot voting was successfully conducted, we came together to count up the votes. It was loads of fun. We enjoyed counting up all the votes submitted quickly and accurately.

The Mascot Design winner for Subiaco Primary School is …......

Lucinda from Year 6, U7.

Please join us in congratulating her for designing our future school mascot!

Father’s Day Breakfast and Walking School Bus

It was great to see so many dads and adult role models enjoying themselves (especially the kids) at the recent Dawn of the Dad breakfast. After a hearty breakfast the tribe walked to school together which was very special.

Big thanks to Michael Rowe and the many supporters who organised this event. The smiles on the kids’ faces said it all!

While this wasn’t a fundraising event, it managed to raise over $600 which will go towards the replacement of our playgrounds!

Uniform Shop News

As Term 3 draws to a close I wish all our families happy and healthy holidays! During the break is an ideal time to check your children’s uniforms to make sure they are all suitable for the hot weather to come in Term 4.

The uniform dresses are very popular as they are lightweight, look smart and are cool to wear on hot days. Currently available in sizes 4 to 12. Size 14 dresses will be available later next term.

For girls and boys, the lightweight microfibre shorts are a great option. They are a shorter leg length and I recommend buying one size larger than your child's usual size. Available in sizes 4 to 16.

Does your child need a new hat or a spare one? Our school is a Sun Smart School, and it is essential for your child to wear a hat every day to ensure happy outdoor play! Hats are available in sizes Small 55cm, Medium 57cm, Large 59cm, Extra Large 61cm.

I am seeking donations of good condition skorts, shorts, dresses, and gold polos in all sizes. If you are wanting to donate items, they must be washed and without stains or holes.  Many families benefit from your kind donations. Thank you.

I look forward to helping you all in sunny Term 4.
