Head of School Message

This Saturday, October 11, we celebrate International Day of the Girl Child—a day built around the United Nations’ 2025 theme, “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.” This theme is a good description of the current point in history: many bright spots, but growing shadows.

At last week’s Senior School assembly, students heard poignant reminders from Lina and Hela, our two Afghan students in Grade 12, about what this theme means given their own lived experience. Read their speech here.

Thirty years after the UN adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to advance the equality of women, girls everywhere are pushing boundaries—challenging stereotypes, stepping up to lead in their communities, tackling challenges with creativity and reimagining the future. Some of them were featured in Time magazine’s first-ever Girls of the Year list in August 2025, which I encourage you to share with your daughters. Read more.

Learning Together Events

Simultaneous translation will be available. Register here.

Notices - Action Items

Photo Retake Day: Monday, October 20

Photo retakes will occur on Monday, October 20. Junior School retakes will be from 8:30 am to 11:00 am in the Junior School Atrium, and Senior School retakes will be from 8:20 am to 11:00 am in the Heritage Dining Room of the Old Residence. Students should be in their #1 Uniform for the photo.

Priority is given to those who have not yet had a photo taken. Any retakes will improve technical issues (e.g., eyeglass glare, poor posture/head tilt, or eyes closed). The retake will replace the original photo taken earlier in the year (no choice between the two photos will be available).

CHS Annual General Meeting

Please be reminded that the Annual General Meeting of Crofton House School will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 6:00 pm via Zoom. Parents and guardians and current members of the Board of Governors are able to register to attend. More details are available in the communication sent to families.

Grades 4-7 Writer-in-Residence Program & Book Sale: Rachel Poliquin ’93

Kindergarten-Grade 3 students will enjoy visits from a variety of other local authors throughout the year.

Coffee with Admissions

CHS families are invited to join Richard Cohee, Director, Enrolment Management & Admissions, and his team, on Tuesday, October 28, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Heritage Dining Room of the Old Residence, as they lead a discussion about the admissions process (JK through Grade 12) and financial assistance (for new students entering Grade 8). Parents will also have the opportunity to ask questions, so you can leave better informed about the admissions process and financial assistance. Register here.

Thriving in Possibility: Strategic Plan Updates

Year Two Progress

The 2024-2025 school year was the second year of implementation for the strategic plan, Thriving in Possibility. The five strategies in the plan have been translated into action over the past two years, and we are pleased to share our progress on the Year Two objectives.

Year Three Objectives

As we move into the third year of our strategic plan, the Board of Governors has approved the Year Three Implementation Plan, which will guide our work in 2025-2026. This plan sets out initiatives for all five strategies: Foundational Well-Being, Embracing Diversity, Purposeful Learning, Meaningful Partnerships, and Active Stewardship. These initiatives will continue to advance the strides made last year and further our commitments to Belonging, Agility, and Responsibility.

Warm Wishes for Diwali

Marked by the lighting of lamps, festive gatherings, and the sharing of sweets, Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and hope over despair. As the holiday approaches on Monday, October 20, we send our warmest wishes for joy, peace, and new beginnings to all who will be celebrating in our community.

Engagement, Dialogue & Reflection: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

In the weeks leading up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30, the Junior and Senior School communities engaged in activities that encouraged us to pause and deepen our understanding of the truths of Canada’s past, thoughtfully engage with local Indigenous culture and history, and consider how reconciliation calls on each of us to build a more respectful and inclusive future.

These meaningful experiences, shared with Musqueam artists and speakers, included hands-on learning and moments of reflection that opened space for dialogue. Read more.
