For the first time, our English webpage has finally taken a break from COVID-19 coverage, which may reflect Indonesia’s current improving condition during the pandemic with less cases being recorded and vaccination rates increasing.
Last week, stories from our Environmental section dominated our page. Indonesia’s senior researcher from Universitas Indonesia Jatna Supriatna, who also chairs our Governing Board, criticises the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s decision to put the komodo dragons, Indonesia’s endemic species, in its list of endangered species. He argues that the decision requires further investigations and the involvement of Indonesia’s researchers in the field of conservation.
On World Rhino Day on Sept. 22, we published a series of articles from Sunarto, wildlife and ecology researcher from Universitas Indonesia, on the country’s success in the conservation of Javan rhinos (Rhinoceros sondaicus) and Sumatran rhinos (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), two of the world’s five rhinoceros species.
On National Farmers Day on Sept. 24, we published an article discussing the significant role of small-scale farmers and fishers in dealing with climate change threats.
