Retinal introductions for consumer use now need AICIS assessment
From 27 June 2026, businesses can no longer introduce retinal (retinaldehyde; CAS 116-31-4) under the AICIS exempted or reported categories where it has a consumer end use, including in cosmetics and skincare products.
This change follows our recent targeted human health hazard assessment of retinal.
An AICIS assessment certificate is now required, with a reduced-fee
comparable hazard assessment option available.
