Water and roading infrastructure in the city’s northwest is being upgraded to make sure these essential services continue to meet the needs of our growing communities.

Work continues on Morrison Avenue water supply pipes

Unexpected ground conditions mean the work to replace the existing water supply pipes on Morrison Avenue is taking longer than planned.

The level of groundwater at the work site has increased the complexity of the work and required additional dewatering. Dewatering is the removal of groundwater or surface water from construction sites, typically using pumping systems to reduce water levels to ensure safe, dry working conditions.

Our contractor now expects to finish their work on Morrison Avenue around mid-May.

We know this has been disruptive for residents and other users of Morrison Avenue, and we appreciate your patience as we get this essential work done.

Revised programme for Harewood Road water supply renewal

Our contractor Schick Civil Construction has submitted a revised programme for their work replacing water supply pipes on Harewood Road, with construction now expected to start in late May, following initial investigations last week.

The later start date gives the contractor more time to engage with affected stakeholders on Harewood Road before the work gets under way, and the opportunity to make minor changes to the programme to minimise the disruption to individual businesses and services. The planned end date remains the same.

The order of the work also remains the same, with construction starting in the berm near 110 Harewood Road and progressing west. Harewood Road will remain open to two-way traffic throughout the duration of the work, although some on-street parking will need to be removed.

The contractor will keep residents and businesses in the area updated with progress and traffic impacts. We’ll also share this information through our webpage ccc.govt.nz/northwest

Meet the contractor – cycleway, wastewater upgrade

Isaac Construction has been awarded the contract to install the next section of the Nor’West Arc cycleway and replace wastewater pipes on Matsons Avenue, Chapel Street and Harewood Road between Matsons Avenue and Harris Crescent.

There’s an opportunity to meet the contractor and hear more about the project at 10am on 16 May at the Chapel Street Centre 68 Harewood Road. Works are anticipated to start on site late in May.
