H D R I N F O C U SHDR Student Representatives October This past month has been eventful for the University Higher Degree by Research Committee (UHDRC). The Office of Graduate Research (OGR) is now fully operational in its new location. Across all colleges, HDR students have been actively engaging in events designed to support their progression and academic journeys. Get to know PhD Student Solène Jahan Solène received outstanding results for her thesis titled, "Towards a better understanding of kinetic interactions between microalgae and bacteria – From lab to large-scale high rate algal pond". Get to know PhD Student Shyan Vijayasekaran Shyan received outstanding results for his thesis titled, “The Evolving Management of Children with Complex Aero-Digestive Disorders". Get to know PhD Student Uelen Oliveira Uelen received outstanding results for her thesis titled, “Supply Chain Transformation – Enhancing supply chain sustainability performance through the S&OP process". Get to know PhD Student Rupert Mathwin Rupert received outstanding results for his thesis titled, “Modelling a threatened species (Litoria raniformis) to guide conservation". Get to know PhD Student Minglei Wang Minglei received outstanding results for his thesis titled, “Chinese Cultural Diplomacy in the 21st Century: The China Cultural Centre Project". Congratulations to Rahkesh and Daniel Rahkesh Sabapathy and Daniel Baez have both received highly competitive travel awards of the American Society for Cell Biology for attending Cell Bio 2024 in San Diego, which is the major global cell and molecular biology conference. Congratulations to Richard Kennedy Flinders University postgraduate student Richard Kennedy has been named South Australia’s 2024 International Student of the Year. Congratulations to Amandi Hiyare and Zegeye Abitew. Amandi Hiyare and Zegeye Abitew were PhD candidates who were part of the College of Medicine and Public Health contingent at the 2024 World Congress of Epidemiology in Cape Town, South Africa. Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector’s new PhD programThe Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector was established after the Gender Equality Bill 2019 (Vic) passed in February 2020. The Commission supports the Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner to oversee the implementation of the Gender Equality Act 2020 and promote gender equality in the public sector workforce and the broader Victorian community. The FLO site has newly developed learning modules mapped to the Doctoral Graduates Attributes and skills, helping students to access relevant material as they need it. All online courses from Epigeum and Udemy have also been embedded into the learning modules, and mapped to their corresponding skill, making it easier than ever to access learning.
