FSLA Convention Recap

FSLSO attended the Florida Surplus Lines Association (FSLA) Annual Convention in Tampa, Florida August 7-9.

The convention provided an opportunity for FSLSO to engage with its members, gaining insights into their operations and exploring ways to enhance support within the industry.

During the convention, FSLA announced the launch of the Florida Surplus Lines Speaker Series, a new collaborative initiative between FSLA, FSLSO, and the Florida State University RMI Program.

The Florida Surplus Lines Speaker Series collaboration aims to enhance education and awareness in the surplus lines sector. The series will feature events twice a year, in both fall and spring, to engage with students and industry professionals.

FSLSO Executive Director Mark Shealy delivered an overview of Florida’s surplus lines market, comparing the admitted and nonadmitted markets at both national and state levels over the past five years. His presentation focused on past trends and included premium and policy count forecasts for the top 20 lines of business for the close of 2024.

The convention also provided invaluable opportunities for two FSLSO interns who received full hands-on experience. Summer intern Dawson Corwin capped off his FSLSO experience at this event, while fall intern Zakaria Zakaria attended the convention just weeks before starting his internship with FSLSO.

There is no better experience for these future leaders than meeting the people who drive the industry.

Congratulations to FSLA on a successful 2024 convention, showcasing the strength and community of Florida's surplus lines industry.
