Adoption Event -- Ladew Teams up with The Bristal Assisted Living for Cats & Candy Corn!Dr. Susan's mother, Lillian with her cat Barney - while residing at The Bristal. Please join us for a unique adoption event at The Bristal Assisted Living in Westbury located at 117 Post Avenue on Saturday, October 21 from 12 to 3 p.m. This Halloween-themed event will highlight our Seniors for Seniors program which reduces barriers to pet adoption for seniors by continuing to pay all reasonable medical expenses for the cat and allowing senior cats to return to the Ladew Cat Sanctuary if their adopter becomes unable to care for them. The Bristal will be decorated for Halloween and will provide cat cupcakes and Halloween themed finger-food. Staff and volunteers of the Ladew Cat Sanctuary will be on hand to discuss our Seniors for Seniors Program and to introduce attendees to cats of all ages who are available for adoption. The event is free and open to the public, although RSVP's are encouraged to info@theladewcatsanctuary.org. Benefits of pet companionship for seniors include improved physical and mental health, improved quality of life, and longer lifespan. In recognition of this:
Hope to see you there! Meet Fluffy and Professor WobblesFluffy When the cold weather comes upon us, we're not the only ones who seek warmth. Cats often climb into engines of cars where it can be warmer and drier than being outside in the elements. And that's exactly what Fluffy did. Fluffy was a stray in Lindenhurst who climbed up into the engine of a car a couple of weeks ago when the weather started to turn a little colder. Unbeknownst to the owner of the vehicle that there was a stowaway, it was a few blocks before they noticed a faint meow. Superhero rescuer, John Debacker, who leaps tall buildings in a single bound to rescue cats, was notified and came to rescue Fluffy out of the engine. Now safe and sound, Fluffy already has a home to go to and she'll never have to seek warmth again. Please tap on the hood of your car before you start your engine in the colder months - this will warn any cats or kittens that have climbed up there to evacuate the premises. Professor Wobbles found himself in an entirely different predicament. This little guy wound up getting stuck in between two fences. A Good Samaritan rescued him and brought him over to our friends at Veterinary Emergency Group where he was treated prior to transfer to us. He had wounds on his neck and his leg from struggling to escape between the fences and needed further treatment while with us. He is doing absolutely amazing now and will be ready for adoption soon!
Scenes from the Blanket Workshop at The Bristal in Westbury!A Bristal resident showing off her creation! Last week the Ladew team went to The Bristal in Westbury to hold a Blanket Workshop where the residents learned how to make cage blankets for the kitties.
Volunteer Stephanie Stellaccio and staffer Liz Cousins We had a great time conversing with the seniors at the Bristal. The blankets they made will be at the Cats & Candy Corn Adoption event there on Saturday, October 21 from 12-3 p.m. at 117 Post Avenue in Westbury. The blankets made will go home with any cat that gets adopted! |
