Seniors for Seniors - Santino and Tigger Find New Laps and LoveSantino Somewhere in the city, two stray cats wandered the streets, each with their own story of survival. Santino, a beautiful black and white long-haired kitty, was living on the streets in Brooklyn scavenging for food and dodging traffic while Tigger was fending for himself on the streets of Manhattan. Tigger During the height of kitten season, when shelters are overloaded with the tiny cuteness of kittens, these two seniors faced a harder time getting adopted at their respective municipal shelters. They ended up at Animal Care Centers in Brooklyn and Manhattan and both quickly became favorites. ACC, now at critical capacity, sent out a plea and luckily we had room. The two were transferred to us and before long it was apparent that they had become buddies. Both Tigger and Santino qualified for our Seniors for Seniors program, which is designed to pair older cats with older humans seeking companionship. Our Seniors for Seniors program helps older kitties have better chances at adoption by covering their reasonable future medical care at participating veterinarians. Meanwhile, in a cozy home on Long Island, Joann and Harvey knew something was missing in their house. When they heard about Seniors for Seniors, they decided it was time to make their house a home by inviting in a furry family member. They immediately fell in love with Tigger and were waiting until Tigger was ready (he needed some dental surgery) to go home. While they were waiting, they heard about Santino and how the two had become friends. Joann and Harvey came back to meet Santino and felt an immediate connection. The pair went home with Joann and Harvey last week, and each of them have their own lap filled with love. Our Seniors for Seniors program has helped more than 50 cats find new loving homes. The Courageous Kitty Who is Now on the Road to RecoveryA few weeks ago, the highway buzzed with cars racing to their destinations, oblivious to the tiny, fragile life clinging to survival on the side of the roadside. Amidst the roar of engines and swish of tires against the asphalt, a small kitten lay motionless, her leg fractured. This is the story of Highway, a kitten who was destined to overcome incredible odds. Highway was discovered by a kind-hearted passerby who couldn't ignore her. Carefully wrapped in a warm blanket, the kitten was rushed to the nearest animal hospital, Veterinary Emergency Group. The veterinarians quickly assessed her condition: a broken leg along with either cerebellar hypoplasia, a non-progressive neurological condition that affects her coordination and balance, or a neurological condition resulting from the trauma she suffered which we hope will heal in time. Highway's fractured right hind limb The Good Samaritan did not want to adopt Highway nor assume responsibility for her care, so VEG reached out us for to help. Highway is currently recovering from her trauma and getting stronger every day. She will need x-rays as her leg heals. Once she's healed she will be spayed and on the search for a forever home. Please help sponsor Highway, by donating today! Happie* Tales: Buppy, the Kitten with Irresistible Charm, Goes Home*Happie is the "H" of Patricia H. Ladew! Buppy's story is so heartwarming, we had to share! This adorable kitten's video had over 12,000 views on FB and his irresistible charm inspired his new mom, Joanne, to fly clear across the country to adopt him. Drawn by his endearing nature and extra toes, his new adoptive mom couldn't resist the journey to bring him home, showcasing the powerful bond and love that animals can inspire in humans. Joanne had just lost two of her beloved furry family members and when she saw Buppy, she knew that he was the one to help heal her broken heart. This tale of dedication and affection highlights the lengths to which people will go to welcome a new furry family member into their lives. Now named Kaladin Stormpaws, he's pampered, loved beyond measure, enjoying the California sunshine and helping to heal his mom's once broken heart. Thanks to a generous donation, we are excited to announce the upcoming launch of Sweetie's Spay (and neuter) Squad, a new initiative dedicated to reducing the stray cat population and promoting the health and well-being of our feline friends. Sweetie Named in honor of our donor's beloved cat named Sweetie, who recently passed away, the program will offer free and/or low cost spay and neuter services, via vouchers through participating veterinarians, to our Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) community. Stay tuned for more details and join us in making a difference, one cat at a time! |
