Message from the Head of School
As 2025 draws to a close, I would like to thank every member of the Crofton House community for your support, dedication and kindness this year. Our School is shaped every day by your contributions, and I am truly grateful for all you do.
Tomorrow, the CHS community will gather at UBC’s Chan Centre for the Performing Arts for the Carol Service, a special tradition that marks the start of the Winter Break. This annual event brings together students, alumnae, families, and staff in joy and reflection. My sincere gratitude goes to all the staff and students whose creativity and commitment continually evolve this meaningful celebration.
The collection at this year’s Carol Service will go to our community partners, Backpack Buddies and the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, and their significant efforts to support women and children in our neighbourhoods.
If you are not able to attend in person, a recording of the service will be available online and circulated tomorrow.
It has been a true pleasure to see so many of you on campus this term—volunteering, joining Learning Together events, participating in Parents’ Auxiliary and Alumnae Association initiatives, cheering on our athletics teams, attending performances, or contributing to the tremendous effort and success of the Winter Bazaar. Your involvement is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve for girls’ education when we come together with purpose and intention.
I wish everyone a restful break with friends and family.
Sincerely,
Ena Harrop
Head of School
Learning Together Events
The Way of Play with Dr Tina Payne Bryson
While we know that unstructured play is beneficial for a child's attention span and creativity, the latest research indicates that specific, deliberate, and playful interactions between children and their caregivers are key to healthy emotional development and later resilience.
On Thursday, January 15, at 12:00 pm, we welcome Dr Tina Payne Bryson to a virtual presentation that will show parents how daily, little moments with their child can have the greatest impact on their lives. She will delve into playful techniques to harness the power of those moments together. While the content is aimed at elementary years, the core principles offer useful lessons for parenting adolescents. Please RSVP online and submit your questions for Tina by Tuesday, January 13.
Senior School Personal Counsellor Coffee Mornings in January
Senior School parents and families, please be advised of two upcoming drop-in Personal Counsellor Coffee Mornings focused on Anxiety and the Social Brain. Both events are currently scheduled to be hosted in the Bains Amphitheatre. Please visit the Learning Together webpage for updates in the new year.

Holiday & Vacation Calendar for 2026-2027
The Holiday & Vacation Calendar (click the 2026-2027 tab) has been updated for the 2026–2027 school year. The calendar can be found on the My CHS Community Portal or by searching for “holiday calendar” in the website search tool. Our holiday and vacation schedule is generous, with extended breaks twice during the school year (December/January and March). The School thanks parents/guardians for restricting family vacation plans to the established holidays. Regular school attendance significantly boosts students' academic success by improving grades and proficiency while fostering stronger social connections through
consistent engagement with peers and teachers. |

Holiday Teas: Thank You!
Manrell Hall was filled with warmth and festive cheer as parents from both the Junior and Senior Schools gathered for our annual Holiday Teas. It was wonderful to see so many families celebrate the season and enjoy a moment of community during this busy time of year.
A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us, CHS staff, and especially our hardworking event chairs Smita Kaliray and Denise Mak (Junior School) and Angelique Schnerch, Rose Bhura, and Elizabeth Bell (Senior School), who helped create such a festive and welcoming atmosphere. We are grateful for these opportunities to come together and close the year on such a joyful note.
On behalf of the Parents’ Auxiliary, we are deeply appreciative of the support and active participation of our parent community. We wish you and your families a warm, joyful holiday season and look forward to more gatherings in the new year. |
