Haiti’s descent into chaos has implications as far afield as Kenya, which was due to lead an international policing mission to the Caribbean nation. The deployment has been put on hold since the resignation of Haitian prime minister Ariel Henry last month. Kenya’s police were preparing to help Haiti’s police restore security, combat criminal gangs and facilitate elections. Oscar Gakuo Mwangi analyses Kenya’s readiness to lead this mission.
Southern African troops were deployed to Mozambique in 2021 to fight Islamic insurgents who had been terrorising the northern province of the country. That military mission is scheduled to end in June 2024. Thomas Mandrup provides insights into its successes and challenges.
