Applications for the Grant Resubmission Support are Open!

The Grant Resubmission Support provides critical funding to faculty to strengthen previously reviewed but unfunded external grant proposals for resubmission.
The call for proposals, guidelines, and supporting documents can be found on our internal funding page. This is an ongoing submission deadline until funding has been depleted.

Federal Funding and Foreign Collaborations: NIH and NSF, among other agencies, are increasingly scrutinizing foreign collaborations and international engagements, including co-authorship, in light of government-wide mandates to enhance research security across federally funded activities. All federal agencies are placing increased emphasis on the disclosure and management of foreign relationships and affiliations overlapping with federally funded research. This includes activities and engagements that may not have previously been viewed as representing substantive intellectual contribution or involving a meaningful exchange of research knowledge. Principal Investigators should ensure they properly disclose any foreign engagement or collaboration overlapping with a federal grant scope of work at proposal stage and seek approval, as needed, prior to new engagements during the performance period. The Council on Governmental Relations (COGR) has developed an Issue Brief with more information. How Would You Measure and Reward Scientific Impact and Replicable Research Practices?

As NIH continues efforts to strengthen rigor, reproducibility, and public trust in science, they are seeking input from the research community on an important question: Is NIH measuring and rewarding the activities that matter most for advancing biomedical discovery? NIH wants to hear your perspectives on how scientific impact and rigorous research should be measured and rewarded (NOT-OD-26-087). Comments will be accepted electronically here through the Request for Information (RFI) by August 19, 2026.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Updates

Does the idea of submitting your study to the IRB make you break out in a cold sweat? Never fear! Attend “Cayuse-IRB for the Newbie (A Workshop on Submitting Studies to Chapman's IRB)” on September 4, 2026, 1:00-2:00 pm via Zoom. This workshop is geared towards seasoned human subject researchers (but just new to Chapman) and to folks who are completely new to human subject research altogether. Zoom link. 

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Updates

Kuali Migration: Chapman's IACUC is continuing to transition from Cayuse to Kuali, the new system for reviewing and managing animal research protocols. Office of Research staff are taking the lead in copying active animal research protocols into Kuali, after which the corresponding PI will be notified directly by the IACUC Office to confirm accuracy of the migrated protocol in Kuali. This process is expected to be completed for all remaining protocols by the end of August. Researchers planning new animal research submissions should now initiate them directly in Kuali. Questions can be directed to the IACUC Office: iacuc@chapman.edu.

Micro-Action Challenge from NCFDD: When your inner critic shows up while writing, jot down one critical thought. Then write a short response to it as if you were supporting a colleague. Developing a counter-voice brings your inner critic to the open, questions and reduces its intensity.

NCFDD’s Core Curriculum webinar: Overcoming Academic Perfectionism addresses dealing with both your inner critic and external criticism to keep progressing in the academy.

Learn How to Code this Summer!

Learn to code at the Leatherby Libraries' summer workshops at the Rinker Health Sciences campus this July. These upcoming hour-long workshops are designed to fit into your midday break while giving you practical, research-ready skills in Python and R. Check out the schedule to learn more or register for these in person sessions.

Discover How to Use AI for Colloquial Data Science

This workshop explores using AI tools to ask questions of your data, uncover patterns, and support decision-making. Attendees will see how AI can assist with exploratory data analysis by generating summary statistics and creating visualizations, complementing the coding skills you are already building.
