2026 Will Be an Exciting Year at Unplanned Good!

Going into 2026, our focus is still primarily on 1) increasing awareness of open adoption as an option for women facing unplanned pregnancy, and 2) supporting and caring for the brave women who choose adoption, then choose parents, for their babies. Those two goals underscore all we do.
Fewer than 1% of the 3 million US women facing unplanned pregnancies each year choose adoption. We believe that more education and improved birth mother care are key to ensure that women have all the information and support they need. We think  that will increase the 1% as more women choose adoption.
That's the framework for Unplanned Good and for The Third Option.
Below are some of our top-priority efforts for 2026.

"Following the training last month, we're talking more about adoption in our clinic. It made the adoption conversation less scary!"

NEW: Offering in 2026!

In Dec.2025, we conducted a training for counselors at Idaho's pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) to start conversations about adoption. We believe that if women get ALL the info about ALL their options, more will choose adoption. This training enables counselors to speak confidently about today's open adoption.

They received information on how adoption has changed in the last 25-30 years, the social evidence that these changes are for the better, as well as the legislation recently passed in Idaho that improves birth mother care, educates students on open adoption, and explains Safe Haven laws.

SInce this course was so well-received, we are now offering these "bite-sized" Zoom presentations across the country. We look forward to reaching more PRCs with these sessions. Email unplannedgood@gmail.com

We introduce bills in Idaho and then offer "model legislation" to the other States. Take a look at all of our successful legislation, new Idaho laws, from both 2024 and 2025 here.

Next Steps after our Legislative Efforts

You may recall our successful legislative efforts over the last two years. You can read about the six bills we worked on (now Idaho laws) here.  Although these represent a very tiny part of our budget, we are very proud of these accomplishments.

The last one, Idaho's Senate Concurrent Resolution 105, paved the way for another big project.  SCR 105 was passed by unanimous voice votes in both Idaho's House and Senate, and led to The Third Option initiative, (see below). Led by a nationwide coalition of adoption professionals, these are on-the-ground programs -- in States across the country -- to build awareness about adoption as an option and improve care for the women who choose to make adoption plans.

Just launched in August 2025!

NEW: The Third Option

"The Third Option" was unveiled for the first time to 95 lawmakers from 40 States at the Live Action Summit in August. The idea is to initiate and implement State-administered programs in states across the country, hopefully with federal support. The Federal government has been funding abortion for years ... we are suggesting that they now fund adoption programs.  We are having conversations now with many states that are interested in following Idaho's lead and becoming "Third Option States"!  You'll be hearing more about The Third Option this year.

Ongoing Podcasts Help us get the Word Out

One key way we educate our society about the benefits of open adoption is through podcasts. This year I was pleased to be invited to be a guest on several different shows. Listen in as we talk about open adoption, honoring birth parents, choosing what's best for the child, leaps of faith, unconditional love and more...
Here's a link to our podcast page;  have a listen!

There's one airing this Monday! The Dr. Nurse Mama Show is hosted by Dr. Jessica Peck, a pediatric nurse practitioner, professor, author, and mother of four. The show is weekdays at 2:00PM CDT on American Family Radio.  https://www.drnursemama.com/show

Speaking Engagements are always a Focus

The first speaking engagement of the year is later this month. "Students for Life" is holding their annual conference in DC and I'm honored to be one of their panelists on Saturday, Jan.24. We never know where the next opportunity will come from but Terri is always honored and welcomes speaking invitations.

More Opportunities in 2026!

Your support has enabled us to accomplish so much in our adoption advocacy this year!

We see more opportunities in 2026 to reach both States and those at the Federal level. We encourage them to increase awareness of open adoption as an option for women facing unplanned pregnancy, and to care for the brave women who choose life, then adoption, for their babies.  Will you partner with us to make this happen?

All of us on the Board are honored to do the work of Unplanned Good. We are driven by a passion for healthy, ethical open adoption. Terri and the Board take no salaries for our work or our time.

AND, for the first time in our history, the opportunities facing Unplanned Good FAR exceed both our funding and the number of hours in our day. If you can assist in either – donate to help cover our expenses or volunteer your time – we’d be most appreciative.  Every dollar is put toward spreading our message about the beauty of adoption.
