2025 Promises to be an exciting Year! 

The Idaho Legislative Session is in full swing now. There are five bills we're working on now, though none has been introduced just yet. Stay tuned!

Our Legislative Work.  

The goals of our legislative work are 1) increasing awareness of adoption as an option for women facing unplanned pregnancy, and, 2) caring for the brave women who choose adoption, then choose parents, for their babies.

2024 in Idaho.  As a reminder, our bills last year, now Idaho law, included: 

1. Idaho schools add adoption education to their health ed K-12 classes AND in their college medical clinics when talking about contraception or STDs,
2. Unlicensed, internet-based facilitators are banned from organizing adoptions, since they don't provide most services the birth mother needs, 
3. The birth mom's pregnancy expenses can be covered without numerous trips to the judge, which also decreases the costs for the adoptive parents. 

Idaho Law can be Passed in Other States! 

Our adoption education bill is being introduced in three other States this month!  Those include New Hampshire, Oregon and California. All it takes is successful passage in one State to give other lawmakers the confidence to introduce the bill. 

2025 Legislative Briefing in Idaho's Capitol Auditorium! 

Unplanned Good arranged an event for the legislators in the Idaho Capitol to highlight Idaho's leadership in promoting adoption as an option for those facing unplanned pregnancy.  All Representatives and Senators in the Idaho Legislature were invited to this January 16 event. We gave an overview of last year's three bills and those we are introducing this year. ... in the California Legislature

Working with the California Family Council (CFC), Greg Burt & I talked with CA Assembly members about the Idaho adoption education bill. We had several who wanted to champion that bill in Sacramento(!)  Ultimately, it was split into two:

• Assembly Member Leticia Castillo is carrying the K-12 adoption education bill.  See CFC's newsletter on this which includes a video which Rep Castillo and I made together during my very quick trip to Sacramento last month. And here's the video. 
• Assembly Member Dave Tangipa is carrying the college-level bill. It directs UC and CSU campus medical centers to include adoption info when they dispense contraception or test for STIs.

Our hope is that the next generation won't be choosing between abortion and (single) parenting, without knowing that adoption can be a good, healthy option.

Impacting the Country!

Passing adoption law in Idaho was never the end-game. Spreading the ideas to the rest of the country, with Idaho leading the way, could bring about national change.

Our mission is spreading the word about how adoption works these days. It can be so empowering now that our standard practices in the US have changed.
