Te Kaha Surrounding Streets

We're on the home stretch!

Barbadoes Street and Tuam Street have received their final layer of asphalt and new line markings over the last month.

Madras Street, between Tuam Street and Hereford Street, will be resealed next week - marking the end of the majors upgrades around the stadium.

People can expect to see a reduction in traffic management measures around the site from late May, once all the final asphalt and intersection cobblestones are in.

Minor works like footpath paving, planting and traffic light commissioning will continue into the spring.

The stadium grounds are currently being compacted, levelled and prepared for paving and landscaping. The footpaths next to the stadium on Barbadoes, Tuam and Madras Streets will have the final layer of asphalt installed later in the year, in conjunction with the works in the stadium grounds.

An update on how works are progressing is included below. For the most up to date information about what's happening on site, visit the Isaac Construction website.

5,176 plants earmarked for stadium surrounds

A mix of raingardens and garden beds have been installed around the stadium as part of the Te Kaha Surrounding Streets project.

Raingardens are designed to filter stormwater runoff before it enters the water network, with the plants helping to remove toxins.

A mix of shrubs, groundcover and trees will start to be planted next week. Planting all 5,176 plants will take around three months.

April progress update

Barbadoes Street
The intersection paving, new road surface and line markings have been finished on Barbadoes Street. There are still some traffic management measures in place, while works continue in other areas of the worksite.

Tuam Street
The final layer of asphalt on Tuam Street finished up last week, and the cobblestones in the intersections on Barbadoes and Madras Streets are almost complete. The gardens will be planted and the final surface of the footpath alongside the stadium will be finished over the next few months.

Madras Street, between Tuam Street and Hereford Street
Starting Sunday night, the final layer of asphalt will be laid on Madras Street, between Tuam Street and Hereford Street. This section of Madras Street will be closed over night, from 9pm until 6am, so the work can take place safely. Work is expected to finish up on Friday 9 May. Read the full detour advisory.

Madras Street, between Moorhouse Avenue and St. Asaph Street, outside Ara
Work continues on the pedestrian and water network upgrades outside Ara. The kerb is now complete and the new footpath will be installed in the next month.

Lichfield Street, west of the stadium
The last section of paving on Lichfield Street is finishing up at the Madras Street end. New street furniture, lighting and tram poles are also in place, and the raingardens are starting to be planted.

A temporary road closure is in place at the Madras Street end of Lichfield Street while works finish up in Ash Street. Read the detour notice.

Ash Street
The wastewater infrastructure upgrades are complete and the last section of paving is being installed in the Ash Street and Nurseryman Lane intersection. Read the detour notice.
