Mason & Purpella No images? Click here Hi Friend, Hello and welcome to this edition of Brainwaves. There has been quite a lot happening this last month. Firstly a huge thank you to all of you who participated in Make March Purple. There were many activities with individuals, in schools, workplaces and community groups and with buildings lighting up purple. The month is a significant awareness raising month and also brings in some fundraising activities. We are experiencing a spike of requests for training and individual support. We are also noticing a focus on children with new needs. It is great that we now have a full team and am thus able to respond quickly to these requests. I am moving on from Epilepsy Tasmania so this will be my last Brainwaves. I conclude in my role at the end of June. I have reflected a lot on my role here and have enjoyed my time and believe that Epilepsy Tasmania is a strong organisation with a fabulous team providing support to Tasmanians living with or affected by Epilepsy. I personally thank you for all your support and encouragement to me and the organisation in the years that I have been privileged to be CEO. Kind regards Wendy Groot, CEO Epilepsy Tasmania. Thank you to Mason who won our "Name the Cow" competition. We hear (and can see) he was so excited to be the recipient of 3 plush toys as the winner, including "Purpella" his winning name for our 2024 Cow Plush toy. 2024 Tasmanian Educational Leaders Conference Kate and Amy recently represented Ep Tas at the 2024 Tasmanian Educational Leaders Conference. Various opportunities for liaising and networking with School Principals and other attendees was given, and a lot of interest was shown for our epilepsy training programmes for schools, together with Epilepsy Management Plans (EMPs), Peer Support and other services we provide. As part of the promotion campaign for this conference, a competition was run for schools, with the prize being an ‘Understanding and Managing Epilepsy’ training session (valued at $400). At the end of the conference the lucky winner was announced, and congratulations go to Ulverstone Primary School. Well done! Our Hobart Team welcome "Purpella" to their midst. Go ladies! Are you in a position to donate at the end of the 2024 financial year? Your donation will enable us to continue to support those in our community. Make March Purple Illumination in L'ton Welcome to Kate My name is Kate and I've joined Epilepsy Tasmania as Outreach Training & Education Registered Nurse. I have a Bachelor of Nursing degree and have been working in the profession for the past 9 years-the last five and a half years working in general practice. Prior to this I worked in the acute setting at the Launceston General Hospital. I am passionate about advocating for patients and ensuring they receive holistic care to optimise their health outcomes. I am a single mum of two beautiful boys and when I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with them exploring. I am an animal lover, and you can be assured that I will greet a dog before their human! One day I dream of owning a doggy day care centre and spending my days playing with these gorgeous creatures. I am very excited and honoured to become a member of the amazing team at Epilepsy Tasmania. Congratulations also go to Kieron for his picture next to the Big Penguin in Penguin township during our MMP Campaign. He has won a cruise with Pennicott Wilderness Journeys. Enjoy!
