The Alexandra Thyme Festival
is creating a buzz around Central and there are even more events this weekend. On Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending a bone-carving workshop with tutor Grant Jefcoate. I came away covered in bone-dust, but extremely proud of my new ‘Antler’ pendant (above), which I created there.
There are still plenty of fun things happening - please think about coming to the Pecha Kucha Night which I am facilitating this Saturday evening. I have managed to procure nine very interesting, creative people to speak about their art practice and how it fits into their lives. Tickets are available from REAP on 03 448 6115. Have a look at the event listing below for more information. I would also recommend the busking competition and the arts and craft markets on Sunday in Pioneer Park - these should be great fun.
Cromwell is holding a Festive Fete on Friday 2nd December at Olssens Vineyard and from what I see on their website this will be a great chance to purchase some special Christmas presents as well as enjoying a lovely day out. There’s live entertainment, as well as a wonderful array of arty, crafty stalls and tempting food stands for a delicious lunch.
‘Voices of Our Ancestors’ is a performance by three Ngāi Tahu musicians at the Alexandra Community Centre next week. This fantastic nationwide tour is not to be missed. Both the Fine Thyme Theatre Company and Alexandra Musical Society are holding auditions soon – this might be a great chance to try your hand at being on the stage. Also artists don’t forget that the Aspiring Art Prize entries close on Monday 5th December and tickets to the Gala night in Wanaka on Saturday 10th December are still available. There is more information below.
That’s all from me - it will officially be summer by the time I send your next email and we will know who will govern New Zealand for the next three years. Make sure you all vote on the 26th as the voices of the people need to be heard this time.
Have a great month!
Cheers
Maxine
