Do you remember what's it's like to attend a LISC Phoenix Annual Breakfast & Community Awards? Maybe it's your first time or you missed last year. We wanted to take this opportunity to tell you what to expect this year and why you won't want to miss it. Read through this whole email for important information on what to wear and how to get there.
Doors open. Arrive and grab you name tag. Greet old industry friends. Introduce yourself to someone new. Grab some coffee or and food to fuel you through our first hour of activities. Get your photo taken surrounded by historic architecture or do a video interview with LocalBuzz. Take a mini tour of the Abbey to hear about the adaptive reuse project and see opportunities to help activate the space.
If you've been too busy to visit the breakfast buffet, do it now. Grab your breakfast, refill your coffee and find your seat so our program can begin promptly at 9:00.
We pack as much as we can into our one-hour program. We'll have greetings from our Local Advisory Committee Chair, Lisa Price, a keynote from Dr. Stefano Bloch, and recognition for the Live Well Arizona Incubator teams and our Community Award Honorees. We'll close out with gratitudes from LISC Phoenix Executive Director Terry Benelli.
The program is over, but no need to rush out. Catch up with folks you missed. Process what you learned. Take that energy back into your work and your community.
Important InformationWhat to wear. Creative casual, business dress, wear whatever makes you feel your best. Remember that the event is outside; prepare for cool morning by bringing a jacket or sweater to wear before the sun starts to warm the courtyard. How to get there. The Abbey on Monroe is on the north side of West Monroe Avenue near 3rd Avenue. - Take the light rail to the Van Buren/1st Station or Van
Buren/Central or station. Walk south to Monroe and west past 3rd Avenue.
- If you're driving, you can select any of the public hourly parking in the area. The closest options are the surface lots at 252 W. Van Buren and 509 and 510 W. Monroe, or parking structure at 200 W Monroe.
Why we need you there. Our work is as multifaceted as the communities we work with. We can't tell that story without folks from all parts of our network showing up. We bet you'll say, "I didn't know LISC did that," at least once.

How Civil Law is Relied on to Displace Communities and Increase InequalityDr. Stefano Bloch, a professor of cultural geography at the University of Arizona, will share how laws have been used to push people out of their homes and neighborhoods, worsening economic inequality for marginalized communities. Drawing from his extensive research, Dr. Bloch will shed light on this ongoing history and what we can do to reverse these trends by empowering communities.
