Spring project vote starts today!
Project voting, Earth Day Fundraiser and more!
Dear Friends
It’s that time of year again, when we are delighted to announce that our spring project vote is open! We received a record number of applications for funding, which, as usual, has made our job of selecting a shortlist difficult. However, with the help of our Scientific Advisors, we have chosen 14 fantastic projects, all of which will carry out vital conservation work. The voting opens today and will close in two weeks, on Wednesday 4th May. Get voting now and tell everyone you know to get involved in conservation and have their say!
You can also find details about our Earth Day Fundraiser which officially launches on Friday, although some of our members have already started their support campaigns. Thanks to the generosity of our members, that have either donated product to Outdoor Gear For Good or will be giving a percentage of online sales to EOCA, you have the chance to get some great gear AND help make a difference. Spring voting is now open!
Twice a year, we receive applications from conservation organisations with projects that urgently need funding support. Since we cannot fund them all, we create a shortlist, following strict criteria, then ask for YOUR help in choosing three projects to receive funding!!
The shortlisted projects are divided into 3 categories (Water, Forest and Wild Places), all of which address biodiversity loss and the climate emergency in a wide range of habitats and landscapes. This is in line with our 2 year focus; Wild for Nature: EOCA's Landscape Legacy Project. All of our great shortlisted projects address a threat to a species or a habitat AND have a link to the outdoor enthusiast.

Earth Day Online Fundraiser
Earth Day has been celebrated annually on 22 April since 1970, to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The theme for this year's Earth Day on 22 April is 'Invest in Our Planet'. Through EOCA, participating companies and outdoor enthusiasts purchasing gear they need for their next adventure can do just that.
Money raised will enable EOCA to support and invest in a range of conservation projects around the world – which you can help us choose (see article above!). EOCA is delighted that a number of its members are raising money for EOCA to mark Earth Day 2022.

New members of EOCA
Towards the end of 2021 and at the start of 2022, EOCA has been delighted to welcome new members from Lithuania, Germany and Spain! EOCA looks forward to working with: Thermowave, creators of mulesing free merino wool baselayers and other sustainable outdoor apparel; Powerbar, a performance nutrition brand that is redefining the global understanding of performance to include our responsibilities to the environment and society; and Babaik Sports, an online retailer selling a range of brands, many of whom are EOCA members.
Sustaining membership
EOCA is very grateful to its Sustaining Members who donate at least €10,000 a year on top of their membership to EOCA to finance the association on behalf of the entire European outdoor industry. EOCA’s 2022 Sustaining Members are: The European Outdoor Group (EOG), KEEN, Messe München (ISPO and OutDoor by ISPO), Nikwax, Pertex, Stanley – a brand of PMI, and The North Face.
3Cs for Cycle – Clean – Climb
Cycling from Switzerland to Turkey, Téo Gursoy – who EOCA has worked with for a number of years in his capacity as Project Manager with conservation charity Summit Foundation – has asked for his 3Cs challenge to be shared as he is looking for sponsorship/gear to enable him, his wife, and their 10-month old son to undertake this ambitious journey and clean-up climbing crags along the way. 1% for the Planet
Did you know that EOCA is an approved not-for-profit organisation with 1% for the Planet? Only 3% of total philanthropic giving goes to environmental causes. 1% for the Planet is on a mission to change that, certifying businesses and individuals that give at least 1% each year to environmental causes.
EOCA’s approval means that businesses that commit to give 1% of their gross sales each year, and individuals who commit to give 1% of their salary, through 1% for the Planet membership can give directly to EOCA and be certified by 1% for the Planet for doing so.
