Keep Thriving through March

March in Adelaide is always busy and vibrant – filled with events and opportunities to connect. It’s no different here at Flinders. This month there are ways to learn, events to celebrate, and opportunities to prioritise your wellbeing. Keep reading to find out more.

International Women's Day

Join us today, Thursday 6 March to celebrate International Women’s Day at Flinders. This year, we’re embracing the 2025 United Nations Women’s theme “March Forward” and embracing gender equality.

For those joining us at Bedford Park, come together and take part in an optional lake walk and quiz between 11:30am and 1:30pm. There’s a chance to win a prize just by getting involved.

At 12:00pm, we’ll welcome our event MC Lucinda Hewitson, Flinders University Council member and CEO of Diversity Inclusion, and keynote speaker and alumni Emily Korir, author of ‘Against All Odds: A journey of resilience, identity and success’ and Chief Executive Officer, BET Group Global. 

On-campus gatherings have also been organised at some of our rural and remote campuses. Register your interest by selecting your preferred location on registration.

If you are not able to attend in person you can join the event via livestream.

We’re proud to introduce Menopause Awareness @ Flinders - a dedicated Teams site where colleagues can connect, share experiences, and drive important conversations about menopause.

This safe and supportive space is open to anyone wanting to learn more, and is part of our commitment to raising awareness and fostering a more inclusive workplace. Join the site today by completing the form here.

Embrace Wellness: Menopause 360Health Support Service Webinar

We aren’t the only ones thinking about menopause and recognising the importance of providing support. UniSuper, in partnership with  360Health, are hosting an expert webcast to help everyone better understand and manage the symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause.

Join Dr Nicole Avard, general practitioner and co-founder of Metluma, for the Embrace Wellness with 360Health Menopause Support Service webcast at 12:00pm on Wednesday 19 June. Dr Avard will share insights on how to manage menopause and provide details of the new 360Health Menopause Support Service available. This event is open to all Flinders staff – not just UniSuper members - Register here

Wellbeing and Mental Health Workshops

Following the launch of the new Staff Learning Portal, we are excited to help everyone learn and thrive with wellbeing workshops in 2025. Invest in your mental health and wellbeing by registering to attend one of our wellbeing workshops, including:

  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Developing Inner Resilience
  • Mindfulness for stress reduction and resilience
  • Unlocking mental health: How different cultural lenses shape self-care

To enrol in these courses, log into the Staff Learning Portal via OKTA, click on the ‘Courses’ tile and filter for ‘Wellbeing’. For further guidance on how to access courses, please see our User guides here or enrol in an information session for staff or supervisors. 

Neurodiversity Celebration Week Event 18 March

Celebrate Neurodiversity Celebration Week Panel by joining a panel discussion on Tuesday 18 March 2025. Hear from a diverse panel and learn more about neurodiversity in the workplace. This event is available online and in-person. To register, click here.

Transgender Day of Visibility 31 March

Join the Queer Collective and Pride Network on 31 March to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV)! This is a day to recognise transgender identities and to reflect on the challenges faced.

This year, to celebrate TDOV, there will be events across Sturt, Bedford Park, and Festival Plaza campuses:

  • Morning tea at the Sturt Cafeteria
  • Craft sessions at Sturt and Bedford Park
  • LGBTQIA+ artists and organisations at Bedford Park
  • Film Society screenings of You Can't Ask That: Transgender (2016) and Paris Is Burning (1990).

Everyone is welcome! If you are a community member or an ally, come along and show your support and pride.

Financial Wellbeing

On Tuesday 4 March in partnership with UniSuper, we hosted the Women and Finance workshop for Flinders staff. This session provided information on managing your financial wellbeing now, as well as setting yourself up for future success.

The session was well received and attendees had the opportunity to ask many questions to learn more. 

This was just the first in a series of financial wellbeing workshops we will be offering throughout the year. Stay tuned for more opportunities to enhance your financial wellbeing!
