Herbicide Method 240 SL is approved for use

A weedkiller to target wilding conifers has been approved for use in New Zealand, with controls.

Method 240 SL is a herbicide used to control wilding conifers and other woody plants on non-crop farmland, conservation land and recreational parks.

Submissions closing for Nimitz application

Submissions are closing soon on an application to import or manufacture Nimitz, a nematicide used on tuber and root vegetables.

Adama New Zealand Limited has applied for approval to introduce Nimitz, containing the active ingredient fluensulfone at 480 g/L to use on carrots, kūmara, parsnips, and potatotes. 

Submissions close 5.00 pm 30 June 2022.

Safe work instruments for EDN approved

The Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety has approved two WorkSafe safe work instruments relating to the use and approval of EDN, a fumigant for timber and logs.

The safe work instruments come into force on 22 July 2022. An EPA decision-making committee will sign the HSNO approval to take effect at the same time as the WorkSafe rules.

Changes to regulation of inhibitors used in agriculture

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is making changes to the regulation of inhibitors used in agriculture under the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997 (ACVM Act). However, this does not change existing obligations and requirements under the HSNO Act.

We invited submitters to suggest sites for the decision-making committee to visit to provide them with useful background information before the hearing. The committee will issue a Direction and Minute with the selected sites and anticipated timing of the visits.

Diazinon, fenamiphos, and methamidophos reassessment update

The EPA’s staff report and WorkSafe’s advice for this reassessment were published in May 2022.

The decision-making committee has set the date for the hearing as 9 August 2022.
