Well, May just flew by and now it’s June already, with the Winter Solstice and Matariki (Maori New Year) nearly upon us. Not
long now and the days will start to get a little longer - but usually it’s after the Solstice that winter truly kicks in. I'm off across the ditch to holiday in Oz for most of June but that's not to say I won't miss quite a bit of fun while I'm away.
An exciting new exhibition tiltled ‘Euan Macleod - Painter’
is soon to open at Central Stories. It will run from the 3rd June until the 27th July. I asked Central Stories Manager, Maurice Watson, what it means to have this exhibition of Macleod's work here in Alexandra –
"This is the largest and most significant painting show ever to come to Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes and it is a signal of where things are headed for Central Stories. We have the official exhibition opening on the 17th June at 5.30pm where Euan Macleod and curator Gregory O’Brien will be present. The following morning they will give a floor talk and in the afternoon invited guests Michael Harlow, Jillian Sullivan, Brian Turner and Gregory O’Brien will present readings of their work followed by a panel discussion". So it's ‘all go’ at Central Stories this month! This is an event not to be missed.
Over Queen's Birthday long weekend you can come along to 'Meet the Authors' – Philip Temple and Diane Brown will be at the Alexandra Library from 11am on Saturday. The Otago Motorcycle Club invites all hardy souls to rug up and venture out to the Brass Monkey Rally at Oturehua. There's live music, a HUGE bonfire and various fun-filled activities throughout the weekend, to ensure everyone goes home happy.
From the 24th June the Queenstown's Winter Festival organisers put on the biggest winter party in the Southern Hemisphere with the celebrations running for 10 days. So don't go into hibernation, check below for all manner of exciting events to help make your June social and awesome.
Warm regards
