World Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2024

International Day of World Indigenous People

Today marks the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, a time to celebrate the diverse cultures and history of Indigenous People globally. This year’s theme focuses on ‘Protecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact’.

This campaign highlights the importance of Indigenous Peoples in voluntary isolation and initial contact in protecting the forests and wildlife. The existence of Indigenous People is crucial to the world and their collective rights to lands and territories must be protected for the environment and society to thrive.

There are an estimated 476 million Indigenous people in the world living across 90 countries. On this day, let us recognise and protect the cultures of Indigenous People internationally, to preserve their traditions and maintain their distinct ways of life.
