Central Otago District Arts Trust

Hello

What's On in July & August 2016

After so much foggy weather in the last week of June it was great to welcome the sun in July. A hard frost followed by a sunny morning is much nicer than a fog that does not shift all day.

Last night the Dunstan High Schools biennial 'Arterati Showcase' was on at Alexandra's Memorial Hall playing to a full house. Students displayed their amazing talents through the visual arts, drama, dance and music with their very successful choir 'Dunstanza' being a highlight of the night.  It was heart-warming to see these quality expressions of obvious passion and skill by the students and the respect shown to their remarkable teachers.

On until 31 July, Hullabaloo Art Space of Old Cromwell is celebrating its 10th birthday with the group exhibiting at the newly refurbished Lakes District Museum in Arrowtown. Entitled ‘All That Hullabaloo’, the exhibition presents a wonderful range of work from the 15 artists involved in the collective and is well worth a visit.

The exhibition of paintings by Euan Macleod continues at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery until 27 July. We are privileged to have such a major display in Alexandra and it is an excellent opportunity to see these impressive works in the flesh.

See below for more information on the exciting workshops and opportunities offered during the July school holidays. Or check out upcoming competitions – maybe create a beanie for the 'Bannie Beanie Awards' or make a garment from waste materials for Cromwell's annual 'Trashion Show'. Also the Teviot Valley is calling for creative entries into their Wearable Tartan Arts Awards.

There's a vast selection of things to see and do during our cool winter period so rug up, get out and about, keep busy and stay warm.

Regards

Maxine
