Dear Alumnae,

At Crofton House, the connection between alumnae and current students is a powerful tradition that transcends generations. Each year, students have the unique opportunity to engage directly with alumnae during classes, events, and assemblies to build on shared wisdom, experiences, and lessons—all underpinned by our belief in women’s agency and the transformative power of girl-centred education.

Resilience—the ability to adapt and thrive amidst challenges—serves as a cornerstone of many alumnae narratives and lessons for current students. One such story is that of Anna Helen Mahler-Aszkanazy, shared by her granddaughter and CHS alumna, Dr Jennifer Roosma ’75, in this year’s Senior School International Holocaust Remembrance Day assembly. The Jewish Holocaust Memorial Day, Yom HaShoah, was observed on April 23, 2025. Read the full story.

Like Dr Roosma’s presentation, there are many meaningful ways to stay connected with CHS. Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of connecting with CHS alumnae in Toronto, Kingston, Montréal, and New York. No matter where our paths lead, the CHS spirit continues to bring us together.

For photos of recent CHS events, visit Crofton Connect, an online community where alumnae can connect with each other, get involved with events and volunteer opportunities, and network. Registration is quick and easy.

We are seeking alumnae volunteers to serve as virtual evaluators for the Grade 12 Capstone Presentations. You are also invited to join us for the upcoming 2025 CHS Alumnae Weekend and the CHS Golf Classic—gather a team and enjoy a fun day with fellow alumnae! Further details on these events are shared below.

Warm regards,

CHS Alumnae Relations

School Update: Leadership Team

The School would like to share some updates regarding our leadership team. After 18 years working in Advancement and Alumnae Relations, Mariangela Brutti’s final day at CHS was Monday, April 7. We are grateful for her service and wish her continued success. Please direct any advancement or alumnae-related inquiries to Kara McDonald, Deputy Head, Community Engagement & Partnerships, who will oversee the transition of responsibilities for this department.

Marc Bouvier will retire from his role as Director, Operations and IT, on April 30, after 12 years with CHS. Marc’s role is being restructured. Following full searches, positions were filled internally: Andrew Tugwell is now the Assistant Director, Operations, and Adrian Copp is the Assistant Director, IT. Both Andrew and Adrian will be supported by Karen Choi, whose new title of Director, Finance and Operations reflects broader responsibilities.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ena Harrop, Head of School.

Alumnae News

What a Week for CHS Alumnae in Sport!

We’re so proud to celebrate Christie Gray ’17 and Vanessa Zhang ’24 for their incredible achievements on the field and the green!

Christie made history with her Calgary Wild teammates in the very first match of the Northern Super League, Canada’s new women’s professional soccer league! After a successful career in Europe, she’s back home making waves in this exciting new chapter of Canadian soccer.

Meanwhile, Vanessa wrapped up an unforgettable week representing Harvard, taking home the title of Ivy League Women’s Golf Individual Champion—and setting a new championship record with an 11-under finish!

We’re so inspired by the passion and dedication of these remarkable CHS alumnae and can’t wait to cheer them on in all that’s ahead!

What Do Engineering, TikTok, Chopsticks and Real Estate Have in Common?

The CHS Alumnae Association hosted its fourth Alumnae Career Exchange with a panel of graduates. Life lessons, career tips, family stories and personal wisdom were shared by Ssonia Ong ’00, Haley McDonald ’89, Jacqueline Lising ’08, Melody Tsai ’14, Yoko Tsukada ’96, Allison Lee ’08 and Jaclyn Chan ’03. Their advice included:

  • Interview, even if you’re not looking.
  • Don’t just follow your passions, figure out what you’re good at and lean in.
  • Work hard and put in the extra effort early in your career. It will pay off.
  • Be curious and don’t be afraid to fail.
  • And finally - SMILE. Others will appreciate you taking the initiative to reach out.

Following the panel, all enjoyed Tracy Rowand’s ’88 Taste to Savour catering and the opportunity to connect. A special thank you to Erin MacWilliam ’00 and Darcy Coard ’00, Alumnae Career Exchange Co-Chairs, for organizing, as well as Paisley Smith ’06 for her creative visual capture of the evening.
