Over the past year, Parliament’s Regulations Review Committee has been considering a complaint about the Electricity (Prescribed Classes of Registration for Electrical Workers) Notice 2025 (2025 Notice). The Committee has now finished its review and has provided a report to the House with recommendations for the Board and Government to consider.

The Committee decided to partially uphold the complaint because it found that the design of the notice is not aligned with the fee structure in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 which was last updated in 2019, which was before the 2023 Notice introduced endorsed registration classes. The Committee agreed with the Board that the Electricity Act 1992 and Regulations need to be updated and noted that this legislation is not made by the Board.

The Board will carefully consider the Committee’s recommendations before determining appropriate next steps and keep you informed about any developments. 

Importantly, the 2025 Notice remains in effect and continues to apply. In this issue, you can read more about the next phase of registration changes, which will come into effect from 1 September 2026.
