Day 4 Highlights

SOBC Campbell River Rocks curling team group photo on curling ice

The first-ever Campbell River curling team to compete at National Games did their community proud! Congratulations to the Campbell River Rocks for winning a bronze medal on Friday 🥉 The team was proud to just be competing at the national level; earning a spot on the podium was icing on the cake!

"There are so many wonderful memories that I will always cherish, but I think having a team from Campbell River selected to be part of SO Team BC is definitely my dream for these amazing athletes that have been training so hard for this to happen.”

Mission Blazers coach Brendan Turner talking to athletes in huddle

This week, the Mission Blazers floor hockey team has experienced all the ups and downs that the sport has to offer. Through it all, Head Coach Brendan Turner always maintains a positive outlook. During each game, Brendan made sure to ask his team regularly, "Are you guys having fun?" The team's response? A resounding "YES!"

What an inspiring example of inclusion and empowerment, and a reminder of what Special Olympics is all about.

"I just want us to be able to leave Calgary knowing we gave it everything we had with our heads held high ... They have put in a lot of hard work to achieve their goals and to see the fruits of their labour is such an exciting and rewarding experience."

"The skiing has been pretty good! I feel pretty proud of myself. It's a lot of fun and a good experience competing with my teammates. I've also enjoyed learning how to speak French with Special Olympics Quebec athletes when I was trading pins with them!"
