Adoption Event -- Ladew Teams up with The Bristal Assisted Living for Cats & Candy Corn!

Dr. Susan's mother, Lillian with her cat Barney - while residing at The Bristal.

Please join us for a unique adoption event at The Bristal Assisted Living in Westbury located at 117 Post Avenue on Saturday, October 21 from 12 to 3 p.m.

This Halloween-themed event will highlight our Seniors for Seniors program which reduces barriers to pet adoption for seniors by continuing to pay all reasonable medical expenses for the cat and allowing senior cats to return to the Ladew Cat Sanctuary if their adopter becomes unable to care for them.

The Bristal will be decorated for Halloween and will provide cat cupcakes and Halloween themed finger-food.  Staff and volunteers of the Ladew Cat Sanctuary will be on hand to discuss our Seniors for Seniors Program and to introduce attendees to cats of all ages who are available for adoption.  The event is free and open to the public, although RSVP's are encouraged to info@theladewcatsanctuary.org.

Benefits of pet companionship for seniors include improved physical and mental health, improved quality of life, and longer lifespan.  In recognition of this:

  • The Bristal Senior Living Community allows residents to have cats and small dogs (conditions apply) and
  • The Ladew Foundation eliminates the two major barriers to seniors adopting pets -- the potential cost of medical care for the cat and worry about what if something happens to the adopter -- through its Seniors for Seniors Program.

Hope to see you there!

 Adopt Raspberry!

3-month-old Raspberry is looking for his forever home.  This darling boy is polydactyl -- which means he has extra toes!

Cats with extra toes are also known as "Hemingway Cats." It is well known that Ernest Hemingway loved cats and to this day cats still live at his Key West home.  Many of these cats are descendants of a beloved polydactyl that he once lived with.  To read more about polydactyl kitties >>

Raspberry is up-to-date on his vaccines, tested negative for FELV/FIV, is neutered, microchipped and would love to have a friend to play with.

Happie Tails -- Dee Dee goes home!

Dee Dee and her new parents on her adoption day

Dee Dee came to us from Animal Care Centers nursing 6 babies!  Her owner gave her up due to financial reasons. She was an awesome mom and watched as each of her kittens were adopted to loving families.

Dee Dee's 6 kittens - Beau, Cash, Jennie, Popper, Buck and Sunny

Emily and Ivan are first-time pet parents and they fell in love with Dee Dee and knew she was the one for them.

Emily and Ivan report that Dee Dee has made herself at home and this retired mama is happy to have a place of her own.

Sponsor Miss Tuna

Our spicy receptionist, Miss Tuna, marches to the beat of her own drummer.

At 13 years old, Miss Tuna has been a fixture of PHLF.  If you've met her, you know that she runs a tight ship and doesn't stand for any nonsense.  She has signs of early kidney disease and she has been stable on a special diet.

She also loves Churu and Temptations and allows exactly two pets on her head before she smacks you and tells you to get back to work.

Sponsoring Miss Tuna will help us cover the cost of her treats and any medical care she needs (so far she's doing well!).  It will also make her feel happy (and we want to keep Miss Tuna happy)!
