Dear parents and carers,
Book Week Parade & Telethon Book Sale – thank you, thank you!
What a week it has been! Our Book Week Parade was simply amazing – so much colour, creativity and fun. The costumes were outstanding, and I loved seeing the confidence of our students as they paraded proudly in front of their friends and families. A heartfelt thank you to our staff, who joined in with such enthusiasm, and to our parents, whose support and kind feedback made the morning even more special.
And then came the Telethon Book Sale – wow! The generosity of our Subiaco community never ceases to amaze me. Hundreds of books were donated, families gave their children $1 for each book, and together we raised an incredible $958.00! Add to this the Telethon magnets sold before school this week, and the donations made online, and our Telethon page already shows $886.00 raised. What an achievement! On Saturday 30 August, Mrs Robertson, the Wellbeing Committee and I will be at the Subi Farmers Market selling magnets, so please pop by and say hello. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Student Leadership
I must also recognise our student leaders, who have been amongst the very best I’ve seen. They led the parade beautifully, sorted and organised the book sale, and managed the signage and setup with maturity and pride. They are a credit to our school.
Students
Research consistently highlights that children thrive when they are surrounded by positive, supportive environments. This week our students have demonstrated exactly that. Their excitement, creativity, and respectful behaviour during Book Week made the celebrations an absolute joy for everyone involved.
We now look forward to some exciting weeks ahead with athletics carnivals, assemblies, Father’s Day events, and more.
Warm regards,
Heather McNeil
Principal

Year 5 Fremantle Prison Excursion
|
 |
| |
On Thursday 31 July, all the Year 5 classes went on an excursion to the Fremantle Prison. This excursion was to kick off our History unit for the term, which centres around the Early Settlers and their impacts on Australia.
We split into groups, and everyone went on two tours, the Convict History Tour and the Modern History Tour. Both tours were full of information, a lot of re-enacting as well as interesting stories about prison escapes! Here were some highlights:
‘Our favourite part was the solitary confinement cell because the class went in and they turned the lights off! We got to experience what it was like in the dark cell. Everyone was screaming but it was fun!’ ~ Luca G and Jaxon W
‘Our favourite part was learning about the riot because it was interesting how it started. We also stood where the fire was set. We learned about the damage and how Fremantle Prison almost got knocked down!’ ~ Hunter C & Will S
‘Our favourite part was learning about the escape stories, especially the prisoner who hid under the floor for multiple days! It was amazing that we saw the exact location of where it happened! It made us understand how desperate some of the prisoners were!’ ~ Jolyon K & Seb N

Year 6 Scitech Visit
As part of Science Week, the Year 6 students had the opportunity to experience the wonderful world of science through a trip to SciTech. We conducted experiments to reduce the impact of car crashes in the innovation lab, we explored the different activities in the main area and we travelled through time to the birth of planet earth in the Planetarium. Click HERE for photos.
Vienna - I learned about the different properties of the elements in the periodic table.
Mia - It was amazing to see that fire could have more than one colour.
Michael - My favourite part was the Planetarium, it was thrilling and entertaining.
Elijah - I liked talking to the satellite and spinning in the G- Force capsule.
Charlie - I enjoyed learning about the night sky in the Planetarium.

Get Involved With the P&C!
We Need You! 💛
At Subiaco Primary, we’re incredibly lucky to have a strong, caring school community — and so much of what makes our school great comes down to the efforts of our amazing volunteers.
As a government school, the majority of our upgrades rely on fundraising events and voluntary contributions. Unfortunately, our events don’t run themselves — they need people like you to bring them to life! We have such an amazing community of families and teachers who make Subi great. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, every bit helps, and it all has a ripple effect on how fantastic we can make our school for all our kids — now and in the future.
Getting involved with the P&C or one of our sub-committees is a great way to meet other families, support the school, and feel more connected to this wonderful community. You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team, and we’d love to have you on board! No experience needed — just a willingness to pitch in. 💪

If your address, telephone number or email address has changed, please contact the school office.
Publications Permission
Upon enrolment, parents decide whether to give consent for their child’s name, photo or work to be published in school newsletters, school related activities, promotional material for the Department of Education and articles for the West Australian and community newspapers.
